Abstract The mesencephalic locomotor region (MLR) is an important integrative area for the initiation and modulation of locomotion. Recently it has been realized that dopamine (DA) projections from substantia nigra pars compacta project to MLR. Here we explore DA medial zona incerta (ZI) known its role in motor control onto We provide evidence dopaminergic (DAergic) A13 neurons have connectivity cuneiform nucleus (CnF) pedunculopontine tegmental (PPTg) No ascending dorsolateral striatum was...
To examine the incidence of nonsynonymous missense variants in SCN9A (NaV1.7), SCN10A (NaV1.8), and SCN11A (NaV1.9) patients with painful nonpainful peripheral neuropathy.Next-generation sequencing was performed on 457 patient DNA samples provided by Peripheral Neuropathy Research Registry (PNRR). The diagnosis as follows: 278 idiopathic neuropathy (67% 33% nonpainful) 179 diabetic distal polyneuropathy (77% 23% nonpainful). We identified 36 (SCN9A), 31 (SCN10A), 15 (SCN11A) variants, 47.7%...
Abstract The cuneiform nucleus (CnF) regulates locomotor activity, which is canonically viewed as being primarily involved in initiating locomotion and regulating speed. Recent research shows greater context dependency the functions of this nucleus. Glutamatergic neurons, contain vesicular glutamate transporter 2 (vGLUT2), regulate context-dependent speed CnF play a role defensive behavior. Here, we identify projections from medial zona incerta (mZI) to vGLUT2 neurons that promote...
Of 30 consecutive children with hydrocephalus treated by shunt implant, six developed subdural haematoma. Four of them presented a malfunctioning shunt, and the diagnoses in all cases were made CT scan.
Chronic inflammation in HIV-infected individuals drives disease progression and the development of comorbidities, despite viral suppression with combined antiretroviral therapy. Here, we sought evidence that vagal dysfunction, which occurs commonly as part HIV-associated autonomic neuropathy, could exacerbate through gastrointestinal dysmotility, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), alterations patterns soluble immune mediators. This is a cross-sectional observational study.Forty...
HIV-associated autonomic neuropathy (HIV-AN) is common and may be associated with both sympathetic parasympathetic dysfunction. Sympathetic nervous system (SNS) dysfunction occurs on a continuum of hyper-to hypo-adrenergic function, mediator between psychological stress chronic inflammation. We sought to describe patterns SNS in people living HIV, determine whether markers systemic inflammation (focusing IL-6 TNF-α) pain anxiety. Forty-seven well-controlled HIV without confounding medical...
Occurrence of tension pneumoventricle (symptomatic intraventricular air) can result in rapid clinical deterioration an otherwise stable patient. It is a rare entity, mentioned relation to cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) diversion procedures, during the late postoperative period. We present patient with posterior third ventricular tumor who underwent excision by midline suboccipital craniotomy sitting position. Neurological status deteriorated rapidly immediate period owing development...
ABSTRACT Parkinson’s disease (PD) is characterized by extensive motor and non-motor dysfunction, including gait disturbance, which difficult to treat effectively. This study explores the therapeutic potential of targeting A13 region, a heterogeneous region medial zona incerta (mZI) containing dopaminergic, GABAergic, glutamatergic neurons that has shown relative preservation in PD models. The identified project mesencephalic locomotor (MLR), with subpopulation cells displaying activity...
Arachnoid cysts are usually located in relation to the arachnoid cisterns. Intra-ventricular location is rare and its embryological emergence this site controversial. We report a large intra-ventricular cyst 61-year-old female who presented with decreased vision, headache right hemiparesis. MRI was suggestive of cystic lesion lateral ventricle excised completely through craniotomy.
