Embolic events are a major cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with infective endocarditis. We analyzed the database prospective cohort study SEI order to identify factors associated occurrence embolic develop scoring system for assessment risk embolism. We retrospectively 1456 episodes endocarditis from multicenter SEI. Predictors embolism were identified. Risk identified at multivariate analysis as predictive left-sided endocarditis, used development score: 1 point was assigned...

Abstract Background Few data are reported in the literature about outcome of patients with severe extended-spectrum β-lactamase-producing Enterobacterales (ESBL-E) infections treated ceftolozane/tazobactam (C/T), empiric or definitive therapy. Methods A multicenter retrospective study was performed Italy (June 2016–June 2019). Successful clinical defined as complete resolution signs/symptoms related to ESBL-E infection and lack microbiological evidence infection. The primary end point...

The objective of this study was to determine risk factors and outcomes infections by multidrug-resistant gram-negative (MDR GN) bacteria in 241 recipients hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). cumulative incidence 10.5% (95% CI, 12.0% 25.8%), with 57% occurring during the period severe neutropenia (neutrophil count < .1 × 106/L). In multivariate analysis, allogeneic transplant colonization MDR GN at admission unit were significantly associated an increased infection. Although we...

Carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae strains, New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase-1 producers, are still rare in Italy, being endemic Southeast Asiatic region. In October 2016, a multidrug-resistant K. was isolated from blood and urine of an Italian long-hospitalized patient with urosepsis without travel history abroad. To the best our knowledge, this is first report bacteremia caused by ST16 pneuomoniae OXA-232 co-producing carbapenemase, Italy.

ABSTRACT A hub and spoke model for optimizing long-term treatment of chronic staphylococcal infections with dalbavancin based on therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM)-guided expert clinical pharmacological advice (ECPA) was implemented. This multicentric retrospective cohort study included patients receiving monotherapy lasting >6 weeks at different hospitals having optimized by means a TDM-guided ECPA program hospital. Optimal pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic target against staphylococci an...

We describe a rare case of intestinal amebiasis unknown source, in an immunocompetent patient with no risk factors. The detection autochthonous Entamoeba histolytica strain causing ulcerative colitis (UC) healthy individual was unexpected, but it the second time had occurred Italy few months therefore, highlighted urgency to establish new approach diagnosis UC and more generally inflammatory bowel disease, involving routine parasitological investigation even non-endemic area.

Background: Fosfomycin, an old antibiotic attracting renewed interest, offers a broad spectrum of activity and unique synergy with other agents. While widely used in severe infections, real-world data on intravenous fosfomycin remain limited. Objectives: This study aimed to describe the clinical microbiological characteristics patients treated analyze its administration modalities setting. Methods: A multicenter retrospective cohort was conducted across five Italian hospitals. Adult...

The COVID pandemic has forcefully turned the spotlight on importance of diagnosis respiratory virus infections. Viruses have always been a frequent and common cause tract Rapid molecular diagnostics applied to infections revolutionized microbiology laboratories only few years ago. Few studies illustrate epidemiology viruses, fewer still those that compared pre-pandemic period. During first year (2020-2021) it was clear everyone witness sudden disappearance circulation all other especially...

The WHO declared antimicrobial resistance (AMR) a significant concern in 2014, sparking initiatives to ensure responsible antibiotic use. In human medicine, Antimicrobial Stewardship Programmes (ASPs) hospitals play pivotal role combating AMR. Although evidence supports the effectiveness of ASPs optimizing use, often lack resources becomes an excuse limit their dissemination and This paper provides comprehensive report on 6-year analysis ASP implemented healthcare region north-east Italy.
