ObjectiveTo characterize the profile of non-AIDS-related comorbidities (NARC) in older HIV-1-infected population and to explore factors associated with multiple NARC.MethodsThis was a multicentre, cross-sectional study including patients aged ≥50 years, who were virologically suppressed had been on stable antiretroviral therapy (ART) regimen for at least 6 months. A regression model explored association between demographic clinical variables number NARC.ResultsOverall, 401 enrolled. The mean...

Monkeypox, a neglected and re-emergent zoonotic disease caused by monkeypox virus (MPXV) infection, has been endemic in Central Western Africa for decades. More recently, an outbreak spread to global level, occurring sites with no previous reported cases being clustered among men who have sex men, suggesting new modes of transmission. There is urgent need research better understanding the genomic evolution changing epidemiology Orthopoxvirus group. Our work aimed characterize clinical...

This case emphasizes the importance of considering tuberculosis (TB) in differential diagnosis complex kidney imaging findings. We report a 43-year-old male patient from India who presented with five-day history fever and vomiting. Laboratory results revealed metabolic acidosis, anemia, acute injury, elevated inflammatory markers. A computed tomography urogram demonstrated significant findings: minimal parenchymal remnants left replaced by caliectasis, ureteral pyelitis, retroperitoneal...

Integrase strand transfer inhibitor-based regimens are recommended for first-line therapy in human immunodeficiency virus type 2 (HIV-2). Nonetheless, dolutegravir (DTG) clinical trial data lacking. We conducted a phase 2, single-arm, open-label to evaluate the safety and efficacy of triple regimen that included DTG persons with HIV-2 (PWHIV-2) Portugal. Treatment-naive adults receive combination nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs). Treatment was evaluated by proportion...

An outbreak of hepatitis A is ongoing in Portugal, with 71 confirmed cases from 7 October 2023 to 24 April 2024. Most are male, aged 18-44 years, many identifying as men who have sex (MSM) and reported suspected sexual transmission. Phylogenetic analysis identified the subgenotype IA, VRD 521-2016 strain, last observed an MSM-associated multi-country 2016 2018. We wish alert colleagues other countries investigate potential similar spread.

Hepatitis E virus genotype 3 infections are normally asymptomatic in immunocompetent individuals. Symptomatic cases of acute icteric hepatitis seldom observed among women, younger men and children but particularly seen middle-aged/elderly men. We report a case severe caused by an 40-year-old woman that required prolonged hospitalization. Her medical history included autoimmune background, namely atrophic gastritis Graves’ disease.
