Acute-phase protein (APPs) serum levels have been studied in many human diseases, and their components contribute to host defense during the evolution of infectious diseases by acting as part innate immune system. Based on importance establishing new experimental models, present investigation evaluated modulation APPs following inflammatory stimulus inoculation Aeromonas hydrophila tilapias. Fish were sampled 6 24 hours post-infection. Tilapias presented increase positive such ceruloplasmin,...
The drugs currently used to treat leishmaniases have limitations concerning cost, efficacy, and safety, making the search for new therapeutic approaches urgent. We found that gold(I)-derived complexes were active against L. infantum braziliensis intracellular amastigotes with IC50 values ranging from 0.5 5.5 μM. All gold(I) potent inhibitors of trypanothione reductase (TR), enzyme 1 7.8 Triethylphosphine-derived enhanced reactive oxygen species (ROS) production decreased mitochondrial...
This study aims to demonstrate the applicability and importance of zebrafish (Danio rerio) model acute chronic inflammatory responses induced by different stimuli: carrageenan phlogogen (nonimmune); infection bacteria (immune); foreign body reaction (chronic inflammation round glass coverslip implantation); xenotransplantation. In addition advantages presenting low breeding cost, high prolificity, transparent embryos, number individuals belonging same spawning genetic similarity that favor...
Pentavalent antimonial drugs such as meglumine antimoniate (Glucantime [Glu; Sanofi-Aventis, São Paulo, Brazil]) produce severe side effects, including cardiotoxicity and hepatotoxicity, during the treatment of leishmaniasis. We evaluated role residual Sb(III) in hepatotoxicity antimoniate, well protective effect antioxidant ascorbic acid (AA) chemotherapy a murine model visceral BALB/c mice infected with Leishmania infantum were treated intraperitoneally at 80 mg Sb/kg/day commercial (Glu)...
Erythrocytic nuclear alterations have been considered as an indicative of organism's exposure to genotoxic agents. Due their close relationship among frequencies and DNA damages, they are excellent markers in eukaryotes. However, poor data has found literature concerning genesis, differential occurrence life span. In this study, we use cell viability; genotoxicity cellular turn over order shed light these events. Tilapia blood were exposed cadmium acute vitro assays. They analyzed using flow...
The need for daily parenteral administration is an important limitation in the clinical use of pentavalent antimonial drugs against leishmaniasis. In this study, amphiphilic antimony(V) complexes were prepared from alkylmethylglucamides (L8 and L10, with carbon chain lengths 8 10, respectively), their potential oral treatment visceral leishmaniasis (VL) was evaluated. Complexes Sb ligand at 1:3 (SbL8 SbL10) obtained reaction L8 as evidenced by elemental electrospray ionization-tandem mass...
Regulation of inflammation is a critical process for maintaining physiological homeostasis. The λ-carrageenan (λ-CGN) mucopolysaccharide extracted from the cell wall red algae (Chondrus crispus) capable inducing acute intestinal inflammation, which translated into production phase reactants secreted blood circulation. However, associated mechanisms in vertebrates are not well understood. Here, we investigated crucial factors behind inflammatory milieu λ-CGN-mediated administered at 0, 1.75,...
The present study investigated the effects of salinity on growth, mortality, gill morphology and muscle cellularity in Lophiosilurus alexandri. Fish were submitted to following for 28 days: 0 (S0), 2.5 (S2.5), 5.0 (S5), 7.5 (S7.7) 10 (S10) ppt. Growth protein efficiency ratio (PER) decreased with increase salinity. All fish from S10 died between 16th 21st day experiment. Mortality S7.5 was 78% at end days exposure. Increased accompanied by increased vascular congestion, hyperplasia filament...
There is a great need for orally active drugs the treatment of neglected tropical disease leishmaniasis. Amphiphilic Sb(V) complexes, such as 1:3 Sb-N-octanoyl-N-methylglucamide complex (SbL8), are promising drug candidates. It has been previously reported that SbL8 forms kinetically stabilized nanoassemblies in water and this simple dispersion exhibits antileishmanial activity when given by oral route to murine model visceral The main objective present work was interfere structural...
Mucoadhesive polymeric nanocapsules have attracted interest of researchers from different fields natural sciences because their ability to interact with the mucosa and increase drug permeation. Anesthesia by immersion causes absorption through skin gills fish, so it is important evaluate exposure these organs nanosystems. Benzocaine (BENZ) one most popular anesthetic agents used in fish anesthesia, but has drawbacks its low bioavailability, resulting weak after immersion. Here we describe...
Aim: To investigate the photodynamic therapeutic potential of ferromagnetic iron oxide nanorods (FIONs), using Trigonella foenum-graecum as a reducing agent, against Leishmania tropica. Materials & methods: FIONs were characterized ultraviolet visible spectroscopy, x-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. Results: showed excellent activity L. tropica promastigotes amastigotes (IC50 0.036 ± 0.003 0.072 0.001 μg/ml, respectively) upon 15 min pre-incubation light-emitting diode light...
Although the exact mechanism of pathogenesis coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) is not fully understood, oxidative stress and release pro-inflammatory cytokines have been highlighted as playing a vital role in disease. In this sense, alternative treatments are needed to reduce level inflammation caused by COVID-19. Therefore, study aimed investigate potential effect red photobiomodulation (PBM) an attractive therapy downregulate cytokine storm COVID-19 zebrafish model. RT-qPCR analyses...
Amorphous phosphate granules are present in vertebrate and invertebrate organisms. The functions attributed to these structures depend on their mineral contents organic matrix composition. In the study we have determined zinc concentrations hepatopancreas of crab Ucides cordatus from regions contaminated with zinc, elemental composition hepatopancreal granules. Organisms were collected areas Sepetiba Bay (SB) Guanabara (GB), a non-contaminated area, Ribeira (RB). first two sites located near...
Nanomaterials can transfect hard-to-transfect cells with efficiency and citotoxicity even better than the ones from some commercial reagents.
Pentavalent antimonial drugs such as N-methylglucamine antimonate (Glucantime®) are used for treating leishmaniasis but produce severe side effects, including cardiotoxicity and hepatotoxicity. We characterized the physicochemical properties of 3 nanoparticle phosphate-based composites (NPCs; NPC0, NPC3, NPC5) Sb(v) carriers specifically targeting macrophages reducing systemic effects. NPCs were synthesized in liquid media sterilized at 25 kGy before use. Macrophage viability NPC toxicity,...
