Recent case-series of small size implied a pathophysiological association between coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and severe large-vessel acute ischemic stroke. Given that strokes are typically associated with poor prognosis can be very efficiently treated recanalization techniques, confirmation this putative is urgently warranted in large representative patient cohort to alert stroke clinicians, inform pre- in-hospital pathways. We pooled all consecutive patients hospitalized...

Background and Purpose— Recanalization of the occluded artery is a primary goal in stroke treatment. Unfortunately, endovascular treatment not always available, tPA (tissue-type plasminogen activator) therapy limited by its narrow therapeutic window; importantly, rate early arterial recanalization after administration low, especially for platelet-rich thrombi. The mechanisms this resistance are well known. Since neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) have been implicated setting, our aim was...

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND. Ischemic stroke, a major cause of death and disability, triggers immune suppression inflammation, increasing the risk infections, particularly early post-stroke. These infections worsen outcomes, prolong hospitalization, lack reliable predictive protocols. Current management with broad-spectrum antibiotics is not proven effective may disrupt microbiota balance. Neutrophil elastase (NE), vital for defense, can exacerbate inflammation infection susceptibility. The main...

Introduction: Evidence regarding the benefit of endovascular therapy (EVT) in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) due to isolated cervical internal carotid artery occlusion (c-ICA-O) is lacking. We assessed outcomes and safety EVT c-ICA-O. Methods: Retrospective multicenter cohort study an AIS c-ICA-O, within 24-h since last-seen-well. Comparisons were made between best medical (BMT). The primary outcome was 3-months modified Rankin Scale (mRS) ordinal shift. Secondary included 3-month...

Background: Ischemic stroke is the most common and severe arterial thrombotic event in Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS). APS an autoimmune disease characterized by presence of thrombosis antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL), which provide a pro-coagulant state. The aPL included classification criteria are lupus anticoagulant, anti-cardiolipin (aCL) anti-β2-glycoprotein-I (aB2GPI) IgG IgM isotypes. Extra-criteria aPL, especially IgA aB2GPI IgG/IgM anti-phosphatidylserine/prothrombin (aPS/PT),...

This study explores its usefulness adverse situations, such as the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. We conducted retrospective involving consecutive suspected treated either intravenous fibrinolysis alteplase during 2019 or TNK (.25 mg/kg) between March 2020 and February 2021. Congenital myasthenic syndromes are clinically and genetically heterogeneous disorders characterized by a neuromuscular transmission defect. Mutations in novel genes have been described recent years. Among these, MUSK gene mutations extremely rare, with only 8 families identified worldwide to date. We report Spanish case, carrier of one known hetero-allelic missense mutation newly variant. Neurological causes are secondary, and in the case cerebral infarctions, symptoms do not always correlate with location. We present middle-aged man who experienced left anterior choroidal artery stroke marked symptomatic CI. In addition to having multiple cardiovascular risk factors, he also had antiphospholipid syndrome as possible contributing cause.
