Abstract Background On 7 February 2020, French Health authorities were informed of a confirmed case severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in an Englishman infected Singapore who had recently stayed chalet the Alps. We conducted investigation to identify secondary cases and interrupt transmission. Methods defined as person linked with positive reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction sample for SARS-CoV-2. Results The index 4 days 10 English tourists family 5...
The management of prosthetic joint infection usually consists a combination surgery and antimicrobial therapy. appropriate duration therapy for this indication remains unclear.
Infection is the most dramatic complication in patients with knee megaprosthesis. Its management more complex comparison primary arthroplasty, a high risk of relapse. Lytic bacteriophages are considered to have potential patient prosthetic joint infection, as it has been demonstrated that they synergistic anti-biofilm activity antibiotics. The Defensive Antibacterial Coating (DAC®) hydrogel available market designed prevent adherence bacteria on and ability transport release anti-bacterial...
Introduction: In patients undergoing a « debridement, antibiotics, and implant retention » (DAIR) procedure for acute staphylococcal prosthetic joint infection (PJI), post-operative treatment with rifampin has been associated higher probability of success.(1,2) However, it is not known whether the total dose, delay introduction or length therapy that most strongly observed improved outcomes. Methods: A multicentric, retrospective cohort study hip knee PJI treated DAIR between January 2011...
although poorly documented, subcutaneous (SC) administration of antibiotics is common practice in France especially Geriatrics Departments. The aim this study was to determine the tolerance such a practice. prospective observational multicentre study. sixty-six physicians accepted participate from 50 French Infectious Diseases and From May September 2014, patients treated at least one day with SC could be included. Modalities administration, occurrence local systemic adverse effects (AE)...
To evaluate the impact of hospitalisation for infectious diseases on Health-Related Quality life (HRQOL), multidimensional frailty, and functioning older patients, we conducted a longitudinal matched cohort study in four European countries. HRQOL, were assessed using validated questionnaires at inclusion, discharge, up to six months later (M6) patients aged over 65 years hospitalised severe acute respiratory or bloodstream infections, controls non-infectious conditions. Comparative analyses...
We aimed to describe patients with coexisting infective endocarditis (IE) and bacterial meningitis (BM). merged two large prospective cohorts, an IE cohort a BM cohort, only cases of definite community-acquired meningitis. compared who had concurrently only. Among the 1030 included patients, we identified 42 IE–BM (4.1%). Baseline characteristics were mostly similar those IE, but was predominant presentation at admission (39/42, 92.3%). Causative pathogens predominantly Streptococcus...
to describe aminoglycoside use and nephrotoxicity in patients older than 75 years.retrospective multicenter study.hospital department, rehabilitation, long-term care center.patients ≥75 years old treated by aminoglycosides.184 patients, mean age: 84.4 (range: 75-101). One hundred twenty-seven received other nephrotoxic drug(s). Gentamicin (70%) amikacin (30%) were used the once-daily dosing was preferred (92%). Average treatment period 2.75 (1-10) days for 4.4 (1-30) gentamicin with average...
Staphylococci represent the first etiologic agents of bone and joint infection (BJI), leading glycopeptides use, especially in case methicillin-resistance or betalactam intolerance. Teicoplanin may an alternative to vancomycin because its acceptable penetration possible subcutaneous administration.Adults receiving teicoplanin for S. aureus BJI were included a retrospective cohort study investigating intravenous safety pharmacokinetics.Sixty-five BJIs (orthopedic device-related infections, 69...
New diagnostic tools have been developed to improve the diagnosis of infectious encephalitis. Using a prospective cohort encephalitis patients, our objective was identify possible clusters patients with similar patterns among unknown cause (EUC) and describe what extent patient's initial presentation may be predictive etiology, particularly herpes simplex virus (HSV) varicella-zoster (VZV).The National Cohort Infectious Encephalitis in France is an ongoing study implemented 2016. Patients...
We report here three unusual cases of otomastoiditis due to Francisella tularensis, complicated by cervical abscesses and persistent hearing loss, plus facial paralysis for one patient. Intriguingly, the patients had practiced canyoneering independently in same French river, between 2009 2014, several days before clinical symptoms onset. The results point out that fresh water exposure may be a potential contamination route tularemia. Besides, frequent complications sequelae, we believe F....
