Citrus is a globally important, perennial fruit crop whose rhizosphere microbiome thought to play an important role in promoting citrus growth and health. Here, we report comprehensive analysis of the structural functional composition microbiome. We use both amplicon deep shotgun metagenomic sequencing bulk soil samples collected across distinct biogeographical regions from six continents. Predominant taxa include Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria, Acidobacteria Bacteroidetes. The core...
High-quality Bi2Te3 films can be grown on Si by the state-of-art molecular beam epitaxy technique. In situ ARPES measurement reveals that as-grown are intrinsic topological insulators and single-Dirac-cone surface state develops at a thickness of two quintuple layers. The work opens new avenue for engineering materials based well-developed technology.
Heterostructure based interface engineering has been proved an effective method for finding new superconducting systems and raising superconductivity transition temperature (TC). In previous work on one unit-cell (UC) thick FeSe films SrTiO3 (STO) substrate, a superconducting-like energy gap as large 20 meV, was revealed by in situ scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy (STM/STS). Angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) further nearly isotropic of above 15 which closes at ~ 65...
Abstract The root microbes play pivotal roles in plant productivity, nutrient uptakes, and disease resistance. microbial community structure has been extensively investigated by 16S/18S/ITS amplicons metagenomic sequencing crops model plants. However, the functional associations between host growth are poorly understood. This work investigates bacterial of foxtail millet (Setaria italica) its potential effects on productivity. We determined composition 2882 samples from rhizoplane,...
Abstract Genetic and environmental factors collectively determine plant growth yield. In the past 20 years, genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have been conducted on crops to decipher genetic loci that contribute yield, however, genotype appears be insufficient explain trait variations. Here, we unravel associations between genotypic, phenotypic, rhizoplane microbiota variables of 827 foxtail millet cultivars by an integrated GWAS, microbiome-wide (MWAS) microbiome (mGWAS) method. We...
The medicinal material quality of Citrus reticulata 'Chachi' differs depending on the bioactive components influenced by planting area. Environmental factors, such as soil nutrients, plant-associated microbiome and climatic conditions, play important roles in accumulation citrus. However, how these environmental factors mediate production plants remains understudied. Here, a multi-omics approach was used to clarify role nutrients root-associated monoterpenes peel C. procured from core...
Abstract Root-associated microbiomes contribute to plant growth and health, are dynamically affected by development changes in the soil environment. However, how different fertilizer regimes affect quantitative microbial assembly effect remains obscure. Here, we explore temporal dynamics of root-associated bacteria soybean using microbiome profiling (QMP) examine its response unbalanced treatments (i.e., lacking either N, P or K) role sustaining after four decades fertilization. We show that...
Moutai is a world-famous traditional Chinese liquor with complex taste and aroma, which are considered to be strongly influenced by the quality of fermentation starters (Daqu). However, role microbial communities in has not been fully understood. In this study, we revealed composition 185 starter samples, covering three different types across immature mature phases, functional gene microbiome. Our results showed that patterns varied, but they eventually were similar steady when became...
Bacterial indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), an effector molecule in microbial physiology, plays important role plant growth-promotion. Here, we comprehensively analyzed about 7282 prokaryotic genomes representing diverse bacterial phyla, combined with root-associated metagenomic data to unravel the distribution of tryptophan-dependent IAA synthesis pathways and quantify synthesis-related genes root environments. We found that 82.2% were potentially capable synthesizing from tryptophan (Trp) or...
Avian influenza virus A of the novel H7N9 reassortant subtype was recently found to cause severe human respiratory infections in China. Live poultry markets were suspected locations infection sources, based on cases' exposure histories and sequence similarities between viral isolates. To explore role live origin virus, we systematically examined environmental specimens from local farms Hangzhou, using real-time reverse transcription-PCR (RT-PCR) as well high-throughput next-generation...
Abstract Background The soil environment is responsible for sustaining most terrestrial plant life, yet we know surprisingly little about the important functions carried out by diverse microbial communities in soil. Soil microbes that inhabit channels of decaying root systems, detritusphere, are likely to be essential growth and health, as these preferred locations new growth. Understanding metagenome how it responds agricultural management such crop rotations tillage, vital improving global...
Abstract Citrus reticulata cv. Chachiensis (CRC) is an important medicinal plant, its dried mature peels named “Guangchenpi”, has been used as a traditional Chinese medicine to treat cough, indigestion, and lung diseases for several hundred years. However, the biosynthesis of crucial natural products polymethoxylated flavonoids (PMFs) in CRC remains unclear. Here, we report chromosome-scale genome assembly with size 314.96 Mb contig N50 16.22 Mb. Using multi-omics resources, discover...
Summary Sea buckthorn ( Hippophae rhamnoides ), a horticulturally multipurpose species in the family Elaeagnaceae, can build associations with Frankia actinomycetes to enable symbiotic nitrogen‐fixing. Currently, no high‐quality reference genome is available for an actinorhizal plant, which greatly hinders study of nodulation. Here, by combining short‐read, long‐read and Hi‐C sequencing technologies, we generated chromosome‐level H. (scaffold N50: 65 Mb, size: 730 Mb) predicted 30 812...
Microbes are the major producers of alcohol and aromatic compounds in beverages. It is believed that, addition to production techniques grains, different micro-ingredient compositions yield variations aromas tastes. The bacterial communities three key phases from Moutai liquor were profiled with Illumina sequencing platform. A total 54 families detected microbial structure showed clear differences among samples. In starter-making phase, Leuconostocaceae Enterococcaceae dominated shaping...
Mangroves, as important and special ecosystems, create unique ecological environments for examining the microbial gene capacity potential producing bioactive compounds. However, little is known about biogeochemical implications of microbiomes in mangrove especially variations between pristine anthropogenic mangroves. To elucidate this, we investigated taxonomic functional shifts their compounds two different coastal ecosystems southern China. A catalogue, including 87 million genes, was...
Abstract Crop genomics has advanced rapidly during the past decade, which generated a great abundance of omics data from multi-omics studies. How to utilize accumulating becomes critical and urgent demand in crop science. As an attempt integrate data, we developed database, LettuceDB (https://db.cngb.org/lettuce/), aiming assemble multidimensional for cultivated wild lettuce germplasm. The database includes genome, variome, phenome, microbiome spatial transcriptome. By integrating...
We have fabricated hybrid magnetic complexes from V atoms and tetracyanoethylene (TCNE) ligands via atomic manipulation with a cryogenic scanning tunneling microscope. Using spectroscopy we observe spin-polarized molecular orbitals as well Kondo behavior. For having two atoms, the behavior can be quenched for different arrangements, even remain unchanged. This is explained by variable spin-spin (i.e., V-V) ferromagnetic coupling through single TCNE molecule, supported density functional calculations.
Adult giant pandas (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) express transitional characteristics in that they consume bamboos, despite their carnivore-like digestive tracts. Their genome contains no cellulolytic enzymes; therefore, understanding the development of panda gut microbiome, especially early life, is important for decoding rules underlying microbial formation, inheritance and dietary transitions. With deep metagenomic sequencing, we investigated microbiomes two newborn brothers parents living...
