An extensive remodelling process, referred to as cervical ripening, takes place in the tissue during pregnancy and labour. It is recognized softening dilation of canal, starts a slow process pregnancy, becoming rapid close partum. In this study we focus on cytokines possible mediators final remodelling. mRNA levels for interleukin (IL)-8, IL-6 granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) were upregulated ripe postpartum (n = 8) compared unripe state 9). Likewise, released cytokine...

Abstract Direct conversion of human fibroblasts into mature and functional neurons, termed induced neurons ( iN s), was achieved for the first time 6 years ago. This technology offers a promising shortcut obtaining patient‐ disease‐specific disease modeling, drug screening, other biomedical applications. However, from adult donors do not reprogram as easily fetal donors, no current reprogramming approach is sufficiently efficient to allow use this using patient‐derived material large‐scale...

Rationale: Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a rare, irreversible, and progressive disease of the lungs. Common genetic variants, in addition to nongenetic factors, have been consistently associated with IPF. Rare variants identified by candidate gene, family-based, exome studies also reported associate However, extent which rare genome-wide, may contribute risk IPF remains unknown. Objectives: We used whole-genome sequencing investigate role on risk. Methods: As part Trans-Omics for...

Abstract Background Myofibroblasts, proposed as being derived from circulating fibrocytes, are considered to be important cells in thickening of the basement membrane patients with asthma. We have studied correlation tissue fibrocyte levels thickness and presence fibrocytes bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) steroid-naive mild asthma controls. Methods Patients (n = 9) were recruited divided into two categories based on whether or not fibroblast-like could established BALF. Non-asthmatic...

Airway remodeling in COPD includes reorganization of the extracellular matrix. Proteoglycans play a crucial role this process as regulators integrity Altered proteoglycan immunostaining has been demonstrated lungs and suggested to contribute pathogenesis. The major cell type responsible for production maintenance ECM constituents, such proteoglycans, are fibroblasts. Interestingly, it proposed that central airways alveolar lung parenchyma contain distinct fibroblast populations. This study...

Rhinovirus (RV)-induced chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) exacerbations exhibit TH(2)-like inflammation. We hypothesized that RV-infected bronchial epithelial cells (BEC) overproduce TH(2)-switching hub cytokine, thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) in COPD.Primary BEC from healthy (HBEC) and COPD donors (COPD-BEC) were grown 12-well plates, infected with RV16 (0.5-5 MOI) or stimulated agonists for either toll-like receptor (TLR) 3 (dsRNA, 0.1-10 μg/ml) RIG-I-like helicases...

Cellular reprogramming is a rapidly developing technology by which somatic cells are turned into pluripotent stem or other cell types through expression of specific combinations genes. This allows for the generation patient-specific lines that can serve as tools understanding disease pathogenesis, drug screens and, potentially, replacement therapies. Several cellular models neurological disorders based on induced (iPS cells) have been developed, and iPS-derived neurons being explored...
