During the shutdown of CERN Large Hadron Collider in 2013-2014, an additional pixel layer was installed between existing Pixel detector ATLAS experiment and a new, smaller radius beam pipe. The motivation for this new layer, Insertable B-Layer (IBL), to maintain or improve robustness performance tracking system, given higher instantaneous integrated luminosities realised following shutdown. Because extreme radiation collision rate environment, several radiation-tolerant sensor electronic...

Abstract Specialized or secondary metabolites are small molecules of biological origin, often showing potent activities with applications in agriculture, engineering and medicine. Usually, the biosynthesis these natural products is governed by sets co-regulated physically clustered genes known as biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs). To share information about BGCs a standardized machine-readable way, Minimum Information Biosynthetic Gene cluster (MIBiG) data standard repository was initiated...

Nonribosomal peptides are chemically and functionally diverse natural products with important applications in medicine agriculture. Bacterial fungal genomes contain thousands of nonribosomal peptide biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs) unknown function, providing a promising resource for discovery. Core structural features such can be inferred by predicting the substrate(s) adenylation (A) domains synthetases (NRPSs). However, existing approaches to A domain prediction rely on limited datasets...

Abstract Semi-synthetic derivatives of the tricyclic diterpene antibiotic pleuromutilin from basidiomycete Clitopilus passeckerianus are important in combatting bacterial infections human and veterinary medicine. These compounds belong to only new class antibiotics for applications, with novel mode action lack cross-resistance, representing a great potential. Basidiomycete fungi, being dikaryotic, not generally amenable strain improvement. We report identification seven-gene gene cluster...

Abstract The rise in antibiotic resistance is a major threat for human health. Basidiomycete fungi represent an untapped source of underexploited antimicrobials, with pleuromutilin—a diterpene produced by Clitopilus passeckerianus —being the only from these leading to commercial derivatives. Here we report genetic characterisation steps involved pleuromutilin biosynthesis, through rational heterologous expression Aspergillus oryzae coupled isolation and detailed structural elucidation...
