We report the observation of a steepening in cosmic ray energy spectrum heavy primary particles at about 8×10(16) eV. This structure is also seen all-particle spectrum, but less significant. Whereas "knee" 3-5×10(15) eV was assigned to light masses by KASCADE experiment, new found KASCADE-Grande experiment caused primaries. The result obtained independent measurements charged particle and muon components secondary extensive air showers range 10(16) 10(18) data are analyzed on single-event...
The ABC effect-a puzzling low-mass enhancement in the pipi invariant mass spectrum, first observed by Abashian, Booth, and Crowe-is well known from inclusive measurements of two-pion production nuclear fusion reactions. Here we report on exclusive kinematically complete most basic double-pionic reaction pn-->dpi;{0}pi;{0} at beam energies 1.03 1.35 GeV. measurements, which have been carried out CELSIUS-WASA, reveal effect to be a (pipi)_{I=L=0} channel phenomenon associated with both...
Recent results of the KASCADE-Grande experiment provided evidence for a mild knee-like structure in all-particle spectrum cosmic rays at $E={10}^{16.92\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.10}\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{eV}$, which was found to be due steepening flux heavy primary particles. The combined components light and intermediate masses compatible with single power law energy range from ${10}^{16.3}$ ${10}^{18}\text{ }\mathrm{eV}$. In this paper, we present an update analysis by using data...
KASCADE and KASCADE-Grande were multi-detector installations to measure individual air showers of cosmic rays at ultra-high energy. Based on data sets measured by KASCADE-Grande, 90% C.L. upper limits the flux gamma-rays in primary ray are determined an energy range ${10}^{14} - {10}^{18}$ eV. The analysis is performed selecting with a low muon content as expected for gamma-ray-induced compared induced energetic nuclei. best limit fraction total obtained $3.7 \times {10}^{15}$ eV $1.1...
Exclusive measurements of the quasi-free $np \to np\pi^0\pi^0$ reaction have been performed by means $dp$ collisions at $T_d$ = 2.27 GeV using WASA detector setup COSY. Total and differential cross sections obtained covering energy region $\sqrt s$ (2.35 - 2.46) GeV, which includes ABC effect its associated $d^*(2380)$ resonance. Adding $d^*$ resonance amplitude to that for conventional processes leads a reasonable description data. The observed in total section is agreement with predictions...
LOPES is a digital radio interferometer located at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany, that measures emission from extensive air showers MHz frequencies in coincidence with KASCADE-Grande. In this article, we explore method (slope method) leverages the slope measured lateral distribution to reconstruct crucial attributes primary cosmic rays. First, present an investigation on basis pure simulations. Second, directly apply measurements. Applying simulations, obtain uncertainties...
Analyzing measurements of the LOPES antenna array together with corresponding CoREAS simulations for more than 300 measured events energy above 1017 eV and zenith angles smaller 45o, we find that radio wavefront cosmic-ray air showers is approximately hyperbolic shape. The predict a slightly steeper towards East West, but this asymmetry negligible against measurement uncertainties LOPES. At axis distances ≳ 50 m, can be approximated by simple cone. According to simulations, cone angle...
The quasifree $p+n\ensuremath{\rightarrow}d+\ensuremath{\eta}$ reaction cross section has been measured at the threshold using 1295 MeV protons in CELSIUS storage ring and an internal cluster-jet deuterium target. kinematics is chosen such that target proton can be assumed to a spectator. Fermi momentum of neutron used extract energy dependence by reconstructing on event-by-event basis. data cover excess energies from 10 center mass final $d\ensuremath{\eta}$ system. Approaching enhanced...
The quasifree p+n→d+η reaction cross section has been measured in the near-threshold region using deuterium from an internal cluster-jet target and 1350 MeV protons CELSIUS storage ring of Svedberg Laboratory, Uppsala. energy dependence is extracted by exploiting Fermi momentum neutron reconstructing kinematics on event-by-event basis. data cover center mass excess energies 16 to 113 MeV.Received 14 April 1997DOI:https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevLett.79.2642©1997 American Physical Society
The results of an analysis the large scale anisotropy cosmic rays in PeV range are presented. Rayleigh formalism is applied to right ascension distribution extensive air showers measured by KASCADE experiment. The data set contains about 10^8 energy from 0.7 6 PeV. No hints for visible distributions this range. This accounts all as well subsets containing induced predominantly light respectively heavy primary particles. Upper flux limits amplitudes determined be between 10^-3 at and 10^-2 energy.
