The effect of a locally applied depot form corticosteroid on the electrical properties nerves was investigated in an experimental model. segmental transmission electrically stimulated A-fibres and C-fibres plantar nerve anaesthetized rat utilized. A drop methylprednisolone acetate or vehicle constituent placed dissected proximal to stimulating electrodes after recording control responses (A-fibre volley sciatic C-fibre evoked reflex discharge flexor motoneurons). found suppress thin...
The mirror nuclei of tritium and helium-3 have been studied by the method elastic electron scattering. Absolute cross sections measured for incident energies in range 110-680 MeV at scattering angles lying between 40 135\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{} this energy range. data interpreted a straightforward manner form factors are given distributions charge magnetic moment two over four-momentum transfer squared 1.0-8.0 ${\mathrm{F}}^{\ensuremath{-}2}$. Model-independent radii...
Direct numerical simulations (DNSs) and experiments of a spatially developing zero-pressure-gradient turbulent boundary layer are presented up to Reynolds number Reθ=2500, based on momentum thickness θ free-stream velocity. For the first time direct comparisons DNS layers at same (computationally high experimentally low) Reθ given, showing excellent agreement in skin friction, mean velocity, fluctuations. These results allow for substantial reduction uncertainty boundary-layer data, cross...
We report on an exclusive and kinematically complete high-statistics measurement of the basic double-pionic fusion reaction pn→dπ(0)π(0) over full energy region ABC effect, a pronounced low-mass enhancement in ππ-invariant mass spectrum. The measurements, which cover also transition to conventional t-channel ΔΔ process, were performed with upgraded WASA detector setup at COSY. data reveal Abashian-Booth-Crowe effect be uniquely correlated Lorentzian dependence integral cross section....
The ABC effect-a puzzling low-mass enhancement in the pipi invariant mass spectrum, first observed by Abashian, Booth, and Crowe-is well known from inclusive measurements of two-pion production nuclear fusion reactions. Here we report on exclusive kinematically complete most basic double-pionic reaction pn-->dpi;{0}pi;{0} at beam energies 1.03 1.35 GeV. measurements, which have been carried out CELSIUS-WASA, reveal effect to be a (pipi)_{I=L=0} channel phenomenon associated with both...
Pressure fluctuations are an important ingredient in turbulence, e.g. the pressure strain terms which redistribute turbulence among different fluctuating velocity components. The variation of inside a turbulent boundary layer has hitherto been out reach experimental determination. mechanisms non-local pressure-related coupling between regions have therefore remained poorly understood. One reason for this is difficulty inherent measuring pressure. We developed new technique to measure...
Exclusive and kinematically complete high-statistics measurements of quasifree polarized $\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{n}p$ scattering have been performed in the energy region narrow resonancelike structure ${d}^{*}$ with $I({J}^{P})=0({3}^{+})$, $M\ensuremath{\approx}2380\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{MeV}$, $\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Gamma}}\ensuremath{\approx}70\text{ }\mathrm{MeV}$ observed recently double-pionic fusion channels...
The existence of a light dark force mediator has been tested with the KLOE detector at DAPHNE. This particle, called U, is searched for using decay chain phi-->etaU, eta-->pi+pi-pi0, U-->e+e-. No evidence found in 1.5 fb-1 data. resulting exclusion plot covers mass range 5
The existence of a new force beyond the Standard Model is compelling because it could explain several striking astrophysical observations which fail standard interpretations. We searched for light vector mediator this dark force, $\mathrm{U}$ boson, with KLOE detector at DA$\Phi$NE $\mathrm{e}^{+}\mathrm{e}^{-}$ collider. Using an integrated luminosity 1.54 fb$^{-1}$, we studied process $\mathrm{e}^{+}\mathrm{e}^{-} \to \mathrm{U}\gamma$, $\mathrm{U} \mathrm{e}^{+}\mathrm{e}^{-}$, using...
We have searched for a light vector boson U, the possible carrier of "dark force", with KLOE detector at DAΦNE e+e− collider, motivated by astrophysical evidence presence dark matter in Universe. Using collisions collected an integrated luminosity 239.3 pb−1, we look dimuon mass peak reaction e+e−→μ+μ−γ, corresponding to decay U→μ+μ−. find no U signal. set 90% CL upper limit mixing parameter squared between photon and 1.6×10−5 8.6×10−7 region 520<mU<980 MeV.
The recent interest in a light gauge boson the framework of an extra U(1) symmetry motivates searches mass range below 1 GeV. We present search for such particle, dark photon, e+e−→Uγ, U→π+π− based on 28 million e+e−→π+π−γ events collected at DAΦNE by KLOE experiment. π+ π− production initial-state radiation compensates loss sensitivity previous U→e+e−, μ+μ− due to small branching ratios ρ–ω resonance region. found no evidence signal and set limit 90% CL mixing strength between photon ε2, U...
The violation of Baryon Number, $\mathcal{B}$, is an essential ingredient for the preferential creation matter over antimatter needed to account observed baryon asymmetry in universe. However, such a process has yet be experimentally observed. HIBEAM/NNBAR %experiment program proposed two-stage experiment at European Spallation Source (ESS) search number violation. will include high-sensitivity searches processes that violate by one or two units: free neutron-antineutron oscillation...
Local injections of corticosteroids are frequently used in the treatment regional pain. The rationale for this is not very clear, since an inflammatory cause pain rarely evident. There few data on effect nociception experimental animals. However, have been found to suppress ectopic discharges from neuromas and a short-lasting suppressive transmission normal C-fibers. In study influence locally applied depot form corticosteroid neuropathic was investigated rat model.Peripheral mononeuropathy...
We report the first direct observations of parallel electric fields (${E}_{\ensuremath{\parallel}}$) carried by double layers (DLs) in plasma sheet Earth's magnetosphere. The DL observations, made THEMIS spacecraft, have ${E}_{\ensuremath{\parallel}}$ signals that are analogous to those reported auroral region. DLs observed during bursty bulk flow events, current sheet, and boundary layer, all periods strong magnetic fluctuations. These imply a universal process strongly nonlinear kinetic...
Observations of electron phase-space holes (EHs) in Earth's plasma sheet by the THEMIS satellites include first detection a magnetic perturbation ($\ensuremath{\delta}{B}_{\ensuremath{\parallel}}$) parallel to ambient field (${\mathbit{B}}_{0}$). EHs with detectable $\ensuremath{\delta}{B}_{\ensuremath{\parallel}}$ have several distinguishing features including large electric amplitudes, perpendicular ${\mathbit{B}}_{0}$, high speeds ($\ensuremath{\sim}0.3c$) along and sizes...
