The European Society of Thoracic Surgeons (ESTS) organized a workshop dealing with lymph node staging in non-small cell lung cancer. objective this was to develop guidelines for definitions and the surgical procedures intraoperative staging, pathologic evaluation resected nodes patients cancer (NSCLC). Relevant peer-reviewed publications on subjects, experience participants, opinion ESTS members contributing line, were used reach consensus. Systematic nodal dissection is recommended all...
Accurate preoperative staging and restaging of mediastinal lymph nodes in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is paramount importance. It will guide choices treatment determine prognosis outcome. Over the last years, different techniques have become available. They vary accuracy procedure-related morbidity. The Council ESTS initiated a workshop on node staging. This resulted guidelines for primary restaging. For staging, mediastinoscopy remains gold standard superior nodes....
The MAGE-A3 protein is expressed in approximately 35% of patients with resectable non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Several immunization approaches against the antigen have shown few, but often long-lasting, clinical responses metastatic melanoma.A double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled phase II study was performed assessing activity, immunologic response, and safety following recombinant combined an immunostimulant (13 doses over 27 months) completely resected MAGE-A3-positive stage...
The Jagiellonian Positron Emission Tomograph (J-PET) is the first PET built from plastic scintillators.J-PET prototype consists of 192 detection modules arranged axially in three layers forming a cylindrical diagnostic chamber with inner diameter 85 cm and axial field-of-view 50 cm.An arrangement long strips scintillators, their small light attenuation, superior timing properties, relative ease increase opens promising perspectives for cost effective construction whole-body scanner, as well...
Antihydrogen atoms (H¯) are confined in an Ioffe trap for 15-1000 s-long enough to ensure that they reach their ground state. Though reproducibility challenges remain making large numbers of cold antiprotons (p¯) and positrons (e(+)) interact, 5±1 simultaneously ground-state produced observed on average, substantially more than previously reported. Increases the number trapped H¯ critical if laser cooling is be demonstrated spectroscopic studies at interesting levels precision carried out.
7554 Background: After complete resection, about 50% of patients with stages IB-II NSCLC disease die within 5 years. Adjuvant chemotherapy improves overall survival at the expense substantial toxicity. Activity MAGE-A3 immunotherapeutic (i.e. recombinant protein and a potent GlaxoSmithKline adjuvant) was previously demonstrated in metastatic melanoma. As 35% NSCLCs express antigen, post-operative MAGE-treatment may be tumor-specific, well tolerated, effective adjuvant therapy. Methods:...
The novel whole-body PET system based on plastic scintillators is developed by the {J-PET} Collaboration. It consists of scintillator strips arranged axially in form a cylinder, allowing cost-effective construction total-body PET. In order to determine properties scanner prototype and optimize its geometry, advanced computer simulations using GATE software were performed. spatial resolution, sensitivity, scatter fraction noise equivalent count rate estimated according NEMA norm as function...
Objective: Mediastinal staging is one of the most important problems in thoracic surgery. Although pathological examination a generally accepted standard, none currently used techniques enables complete removal all lymph node stations mediastinum. The aim study to present new technique transcervical extended mediastinal lymphadenctomy (TEMLA) and analyze its value lung cancer staging. Methods: In prospective consecutive group non-small cell (NSCLC) patients, operated on between January...
In this article it is presented an FPGA based $M$ulti-$V$oltage $T$hreshold (MVT) system which allows of sampling fast signals ($1-2$ ns rising and falling edge) in both voltage time domain. It possible to achieve a precision measurement $20$ ps RMS reconstruct charge signals, using simple approach, with deviation from real value smaller than 10$\%$. Utilization the differential inputs chip as comparators together implementation TDC inside allowed us compact multi-channel characterized by...
A novel approach to tomographic data processing has been developed and evaluated using the Jagiellonian PET (J-PET) scanner as an example. We propose a system in which there is no need for powerful, local facility, capable reconstruct images on fly. Instead we introduce Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) System-on-Chip (SoC) platform connected directly streams coming from scanner, can perform event building, filtering, coincidence search Region-Of-Response (ROR) reconstruction by...
Recent tests of a single module the Jagiellonian Positron Emission Tomography system (J-PET) consisting 30 cm long plastic scintillator strips have proven its applicability for detection annihilation quanta (0.511 MeV) with coincidence resolving time (CRT) 0.266 ns. The achieved resolution is almost by factor two better respect to current TOF-PET detectors and it can still be improved since, as shown in this article, intrinsic limit determination interaction 0.511 MeV gamma scintillators...
Exclusive measurements of the quasi-free $np \to np\pi^0\pi^0$ reaction have been performed by means $dp$ collisions at $T_d$ = 2.27 GeV using WASA detector setup COSY. Total and differential cross sections obtained covering energy region $\sqrt s$ (2.35 - 2.46) GeV, which includes ABC effect its associated $d^*(2380)$ resonance. Adding $d^*$ resonance amplitude to that for conventional processes leads a reasonable description data. The observed in total section is agreement with predictions...
We present a study of the application Jagiellonian positron emission tomograph (J-PET) for registration gamma quanta from decays ortho-positronium (o-Ps). The J-PET is first tomography scanner based on organic scintillators in contrast to all current PET scanners inorganic crystals. Monte Carlo simulations show that as an axially symmetric and high acceptance can be used multi-purpose detector well suited pursue research including e.g. tests discrete symmetries addition medical imaging....
The aim of the study was to assess diagnostic yield endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-NA) in mediastinal staging non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients.Consecutive NSCLC patients with enlarged or normal nodes on CT scans underwent EBUS-NA. All negative EBUS-NA subsequently transcervical extended bilateral lymphadenectomy (TEMLA) as a confirmatory test. Two hundred and twenty-six between 1.02.07 30.04.08. There were 320 lymph biopsied (stations: 2R -...
Taking advantage of both the high mass resolution COSY-11 detector and energy low-emittance proton beam cooler synchrotron COSY, we determine excitation function for pp→ppη(') reaction close to threshold. Combining these data with previous results, extract scattering length η(')-proton potential in free space be Re(a(pη(')))=0±0.43 fm Im(a(pη(')))=0.37(-0.16)(+0.40) fm.
Abstract We present the discovery and first three months of follow-up observations a currently on-going unusual transient detected by OGLE-IV survey, located in centre galaxy at redshift z=0.1655. The long rise to absolute magnitude -20.5 mag, slow decline, very broad He H spectral features make OGLE16aaa similar other optical/UV Tidal Disruption Events (TDEs). Weak narrow emission lines spectrum archival photometric suggest host is weak-line Active Galactic Nucleus (AGN), which has been...
