We have measured the overall statistical efficiency of human subjects discriminating amplitude visual pattern signals added to noisy backgrounds. By changing noise amplitude, amount intrinsic can be estimated and allowed for. For a target containing few cycles spatial sinusoid about 5 per degree, is as high 0.7 ± 0.07, after correction for noise, reaches 0.83 0.15. Such figure leaves little room residual inefficiencies in neural mechanisms that handle these patterns.

Historically, human signal-detection responses have been assumed to be governed by external determinants (nature of the signal, noise, and task) internal determinants. Variability in is commonly attributed noise (often vaguely defined). We present a variety experimental results that demonstrate observer inconsistency performing noise-limited visual detection discrimination tasks with repeated presentation images. Our can interpreted using model includes an internal-noise component directly...

Research on human-observer performance for noise-limited tasks (such as those found in medical imaging) has recently progressed to investigations which some signal or image parameters are statistically defined. In these cases the ideal-observer procedure is usually nonlinear, and analysis mathematically intractable. Two suboptimal but linear observer models have been proposed mathematical convenience. The Hotelling optimal model give a good fit most human results. nonprewhitening (NPW)...

An M-alternative forced-choice identification technique was used with values M ranging from 2 to 1800. find high statistical efficiency (50% for aperiodic signals), and results one value can be predict all others. The are consistent view that humans act as suboptimal maximum a posteriori probability observers.

Proton magnetic resonance has been used to study water in Douglas fir and western red cedar. The free induction decay, when combined with a knowledge of chemical composition the wood, gives an accurate measure absolute moisture content. Introduction Primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) is a rare, genetic, multiorgan disease with an estimated prevalence of 1 in 10 000. It affects mainly the upper and lower airways due to impaired mucociliary clearance. Almost all patients have sinonasal or otologic (ear–nose–throat, ENT) problems, although ENT clinical phenotype may present great variability. Despite that, data on PCD manifestations are scarce based small single-centre studies. To date, we know little about spectrum severity...

The rare‐earth consistently gave higher contrast (relative to water) air, CaCl 2 , iodine, oil than the standard mm added aluminum, given voltage. It was found that best choices constant product loading.
