ABSTRACT We sequenced and phylogenetically analyzed the reverse transcriptase (RT) region of five human immunodeficiency virus type 1 isolates from treatment-naive Ethiopian émigrés to Israel. Heteroduplex mobility assays were performed confirm clade C status env genomic regions. The RT sequences showed that strains clustered with viruses, a KVEQ-specific motif silent mutations (amino acids 65, 106, 138, 161, respectively) at resistance sites was present in polymerase all studied subtype...

The geographic and evolutionary origins of the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant (BA.1), which was first detected mid-November 2021 in Southern Africa, remain unknown. We tested 13,097 COVID-19 patients sampled between mid-2021 to early 2022 from 22 African countries for BA.1 by real-time RT-PCR. By November-December 2021, had replaced Delta all sub-regions following a South-North gradient, with peak Rt 4.1. Polymerase chain reaction near-full genome sequencing data revealed genetically diverse...

The inhibition of HIV-1 replication in vitro by Immunor 28 (IM28), an analog dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), was monitored using the laboratory wild-type strain IIIB. Evaluation 50% inhibitory dose (IC50) revealed a decrease giving IC50 value around 22 microM. toxicity drug has been determined also, MT2 cells and PBMCs. 60 microM IM28 provoked cell viability while DHEA caused same at 75 cells. These values are 125 for PBMCs 135 DHEA. Thus, is less toxic than IM28, but higher antiviral activity.

Background: In mid-November 2021, the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron BA.1 variant was detected in Southern Africa, prompting international travel restrictions of unclear effectiveness that exacted a substantial economic toll. Methods: Amidst wave, we tested 13,294 COVID-19 patients 24 African countries between mid-2021 to early 2022 for and Delta variants using real-time reverse transcription-PCR tests.
