We report a case of Usutu virus (USUV)-related illness in patient that underwent an orthotropic liver transplant (OLT). Post transplant, the developed clinical signs possible neuroinvasive disease with significant loss cerebral functions. USUV was isolated Vero E6 cells from plasma sample obtained immediately before surgery, and RNA demonstrated by RT-PCR sequencing. This enlarges panel emerging mosquito-borne flavivirus-related humans.

Abstract Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) has been detected sporadically in Italy since the 1990s. We report phylogenetic relationship of swine enteric coronaviruses collected during 2007–2014 and identify a drastic shift PEDV strain variability new coronavirus generated by recombination transmissible gastroenteritis PEDV.

Background In 2008, after the first West Nile virus (WNV) detection in Emilia-Romagna region, a surveillance system, including mosquito- and bird-based surveillance, was established to evaluate presence. Surveillance improved following years by extending monitoring larger areas increasing numbers of mosquitoes birds tested. Methodology/Principal Findings A network mosquito traps, evenly distributed regularly activated, set up within surveyed area. total 438,558 mosquitoes, grouped 3,111...

Usutu virus (USUV) is a mosquito-borne flavivirus belonging to the Japanese encephalitis serocomplex, recently related neurological disease in immunosuppressed patients. In same area of Northern Italy where USUV human cases occurred 2009, regional West Nile (WNV) surveillance program based on mosquito monitoring and wild birds screening has been implemented since 2008. Mosquito pools were tested using three different polymerase chain reactions (Flavivirus, WNV, USUV). During summer 56 (54...

Methods In February–March 2009–2011, 5,993 hibernating mosquitoes were manually sampled, out which 80.1% Culex pipiens; none tested positive for viruses.
