Background In recent years human diseases due to mosquito-borne viruses were increasingly reported in Emilia-Romagna region (Italy), from the chikungunya virus 2007 West Nile (WNV) 2008. An extensive entomological survey was performed 2009 establish presence and distribution of mosquito arboviruses this region, with particular reference flaviviruses. Methodology/Principal Findings From May 6 October 31, a total 190,516 mosquitoes sampled georeferenced stations, grouped 1,789 pools according...

This study describes identification molecular characterization alphacoronaviruses betacoronaviruses bats Italy, from 2010 to 2012. In April 2023, an outbreak of clade 2.3.4.4b highly pathogenic avian influenza A(H5N1) viruses carrying the T271A mammalian adaptive mutation in PB2 protein was detected a backyard poultry farm Italy. Five domestic dogs and one cat living on premises had seroconverted absence clinical signs. Virological serological monitoring individuals exposed to virus proved human transmission, however, asymptomatic infections pets may have important public health implications.

Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV), which belongs to beta group of coronavirus, can infect multiple host species and causes severe diseases in humans. Multiple surveillance phylogenetic studies suggest a bat origin. There have been previous reports of the human-to-cat transmission SARS-CoV-2, but there are only a few molecular studies that compared whole genome virus in cats and their owners. We here describe case domestic SARS-CoV-2 from healthcare worker to his cat for which nasopharyngeal swabs both its owner were used full-genome analysis. The results indicate quarantine measures should be extended pets living SARS-CoV-2-infected households.
