Abstract Background The Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS) is the most widely frequently used scale to assess positive negative affect. PANAS has been validated in several languages, it shown excellent psychometric properties general population some clinical samples, such as forensic substance users, adult women with fibromyalgia. Nevertheless, of have not yet examined samples anxiety, depressive, adjustment disorders. In addition, proliferation Internet-based treatments led...
Here, we present evidence that a cysteine protease (EhCP112) and protein with an adherence domain (EhADH112) form the Entamoeba histolytica 112 kDa adhesin. Immunoelectron microscopy immunofluorescence assays using monoclonal antibodies (mAbAdh) revealed that, during phagocytosis, adhesin is translocated from plasma membrane to phagocytic vacuoles. mAbAdh inhibited 54% adherence, 41% 35% 62% destruction of MDCK cell monolayers by live trophozoites their extracts respectively. We cloned 3587...
The cytoadherence of Trichomonas vaginalis, the sexually transmitted flagellated protozoan, to vaginal epithelial cells (VECs) is key infection. Electron microscopy revealed that in vitro-grown parasites having typical globular shape transformed rapidly after contact with VECs into thin, flat, amoeboid cells, maximizing area adhesion surface VECs. Amoebic trichomonads formed filopodia and pseudopodia, which interdigitated at distinct sites on plasma membrane target cells. In contrast,...
Treatment of living entamoeba histolytica cells with low concentrations concanavalin A (con A) and peroxidase results in redistribution the plasma membrane con receptors to one pole cell where a morphologically distinct region--the uroid--is formed. Capping is not accompanied by parallel accumulation ruthenium red-stainable components. In capped cells, pattern distribution acidic sites ionized at pH 1.8 (labeled colloidal iron) outer surface particles (integral components revealed...
Foodborne diseases are a serious and growing problem, the incidence prevalence of antimicrobial resistance among foodborne pathogens is reported to have increased. The emergence antibiotic-resistant bacterial strains demands novel strategies counteract this epidemic. In regard, lytic bacteriophages reemerged as an alternative for control pathogenic bacteria. However, effective use phages relies on appropriate biological genomic characterization. study, we present isolation characterization...
ABSTRACT. Nitazoxanide, a 5‐nitrothiazolyl derivative, is effective in the treatment of broad range parasitic infections. In vitro, it active against several protozoa, including Cryptosporidiwn parvum, Blastocystis hominis , and Giardia intestinalis . The objective this study was to determine vitro effect nitazoxanide on growth morphology three anaerobic protozoa (Entamoeba histolytica, Trichomonas vaginalis ) compare these effects with those metronidazole albendazole. A subculture method...
ABSTRACT The ultrastructure of epimastigotes Trypanosoma cruzi, obtained from, acellular cultures, and bloodstream trypomastigotes, isolated from infected mice, were studied by thin-sectioning freeze-fracturing techniques. Epimastigotes showed a thin (5 nm) surface coat when stained with ruthenium red, while the trypomastigotes was more prominent (15 nm thick). Both P E faces plasma membrane T. cruzi had roughly same number intramembranous particles (IMP) as seen freeze-fracture. less IMP...
A regional specialization of the cell surface T. cruzi culture forms was found at cytostome as a localized thick coat rich in carbohydrate-containing components. The prominent located over region plasma membrane where intramembranous particles were exceedingly low number. In turn, particle-poor related to specialized submembrane fibrils not present under other regions membrane. cystostome provides striking example stable differentiation membrane, involving outer surface, interior, and...
An important concern in Internet-based treatments (IBTs) for emotional disorders is the high dropout rate from these protocols. Although rates are usually reported research studies, very few studies qualitatively explore experiences of patients who drop out IBTs. Examining clients may help to find ways tackle this problem. A Consensual Qualitative Research study was applied 10 intentionally-selected dropped a transdiagnostic IBT. 22 categories were identified within 6 domains. Among an...
The cellular bases of the powerful cytolytic activity human protozoan parasite Entamoeba histolytica were explored by studying effect virulent strain HM1:IMSS on epithelial monolayers MDCK cells using a combination time-lapse microcinematography and transmission scanning electron microscopy. Early alterations cell membranes detected measuring changes in transepithelial electrical resistance mounted Ussing chambers. aggressive mechanism E. trophozoites was found to be complex, multifactorial...
Abstract. Encystation and excystation of Acanthamoeba castellanii were studied by transmission electron microscopy. The differentiation process was induced in asynchronous cultures grown axenically. Cytoplasmic vesicles containing a dense fibrous material very similar appearance to the cyst wall observed trophozoites encyst. When these incubated with calcofluor white m2r, fluorescence cytoplasmic vesicles, suggesting that contained corresponded precursors. Semithin cryosections mature cysts...
The Overall Anxiety Severity and Impairment Scale (OASIS) is a self-report questionnaire designed to evaluate the severity functional impairment associated with anxiety. Given its transdiagnostic nature, it can be used indistinctly across anxiety depressive disorders. In this study, psychometric properties of online version OASIS were evaluated in Spanish clinical sample emotional Patients (n = 583) 250) depression 333) mean age 37.21 (SD 12.22), underwent diagnostic interview questionnaires...
Background Anxiety disorders and depression (emotional disorders) are highly prevalent mental disorders. Extensive empirical evidence supports the efficacy of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for treatment these However, there still some barriers related to their dissemination implementation, which make it difficult patients receive treatments, especially in public health care settings where resources limited. Recent advances improving CBT encompass different perspectives. One is...
Background Emotional disorders (EDs) are among the most prevalent mental disorders. Existing evidence-based psychological treatments not sufficient to reduce disease burden of It is therefore essential implement innovative solutions achieve a successful dissemination treatment protocols, and in this regard, use information communication technologies such as internet can be very useful. Furthermore, literature suggests that everyone with an ED receives appropriate treatment. This situation...
Summary Trichomonas vaginalis, a human sexually transmitted protozoan, relies on adherence to the vaginal epithelium for colonization and maintenance of infection in host. Thus, molecules play fundamental role trichomonal infection. Here, we show identification characterization 120 kDa surface glycoprotein (AP120) induced by iron, which participates cytoadherence. AP120 is synthesized parasite when grown 250 µM iron medium. Antibodies electro-eluted inhibited concentration-dependent manner,...
The cytological features of Entamoeba dispar , recently recognized by biochemical and molecular biology criteria as a distinct species, were compared to those histolytica. When cultured under axenic conditions, living trophozoites E. strain SAW 760RR clone A more elongated in form, had single frontal pseudopodium, showed noticeable uroid. In sections stained with Toluidine blue, characteristic areas cytoplasmic metachromasia seen due the presence large deposits glycogen, seldom found...
