This study aimed to provide normative references for Mexican Americans on neuropsychological measures of cognitive functioning. Data were analyzed from a total 797 Mexican-Americans recruited across three Texas-based studies with approximately one-half the participants tested in Spanish. Normative tables include: MMSE, AMNART, WMS-III (Logical Memory I, II; Visual Reproduction Digit Span), CERAD, RAVLT, Exit25, CLOX 1 & 2, Trail Making Test- A&B, BNT, COWA, and Animal Naming. The norms...
Despite heterogeneous biology, similar surveillance schemas are utilized after resection of all pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PanNETs). Given concerns regarding excess radiation exposure and financial burden, our aim was to develop a prognostic score for disease recurrence guide individually tailored strategies. All patients with primary nonfunctioning, nonmetastatic well/moderately differentiated PanNETs who underwent curative-intent at 9-institutions from 2000 2016 were included (n =...
Background: The links between diabetes, depression, and Alzheimer's disease (AD) has been established, but they are still poorly understood. However, little research examined the effect that comorbidity of depression diabetes on cognitive impairment in an ethnically diverse sample. Ob jective: purpose this study was to investigate relationship comorbid dysfunction; examine population. Methods Results: Analyses data from 2,436 participants (914 men 1,522 women) three separate cohorts: HABLE,...
Abstract Understanding the disease trajectories of specific diseases can provide important clinical insights. In this paper, we aimed to discover signature 3 rare cancer types: pancreatic cancer, soft tissue sarcoma (STS) trunk and extremity (STS-TE), STS abdomen retroperitoneum (STS-AR), leveraging IQVIA Oncology Electronic Medical Record. We identified significant diagnosis pairs in patients with these cancers through matched cohort sampling, statistical computation, right-tailed binomial...
Abstract Background For pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PDAC), no studies have established any association between earlier treatment initiation and long‐term outcomes. In addition, an optimal type of initial for the localized disease remains ill‐defined. Methods Patients in National Cancer Database (2004‐2015) with clinical stage I (CS‐I) II (CS‐II) PDAC who underwent curative‐intent resection were included. Optimal time from diagnosis‐to‐treatment including neoadjuvant chemotherapy,...
Abstract Background and Objectives Race/ethnicity socioeconomic factors are associated with worse cancer outcomes. Our aim was to determine the association of these receipt surgery multimodality therapy for cholangiocarcinoma. Methods Patients cholangiocarcincoma in National Cancer Database were identified. Racial/ethnic groups defined as non‐Hispanic White, Black, Asian, Hispanic. Socioeconomic insurance status, income, education. Results Of 12 095 patients non‐metastatic...
Recent evidence suggests that increasing dietary intake of minerals reduces the risk dementia. This study aimed to examine relationship between potassium and diagnosis mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in a sample older Mexican-Americans from rural urban populations. The was formed total 139 participants with MCI 371 normal controls two independent cohorts: cohort (Facing Rural Obstacles Healthcare Now through Intervention, Education Research [Project FRONTIER]) an (the Health Aging Brain among...
While sub-2 cm pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are often observed, small bowel-NETs undergo resection and lymphadenectomy regardless of size. Aim was to define the natural history duodenal (D-NETs), determine role resection, factors associated with overall survival (OS) after resection.National Cancer Database (2004-2014) queried for patients nonmetastatic/nonfunctional D-NETs. Local (LR): local excision/polypectomy/excisional biopsy. Anatomic (AR): radical surgery. Tumor size...
ABSTRACT Background: This study explored the combined impact of depression and inflammation on memory functioning among Mexican-American adults elders. Methods: Data were analyzed from 381 participants Health Aging Brain Latino Elders (HABLE). Fasting serum samples collected assayed in duplicate using electrochemiluminesce SECTOR Imager 2400A Meso Scale Discovery. Positive DepE (depression endophenotype) was codified as any score >1 a five-point scale based GDS-30. Inflammation determined...
Abstract Background/Objective Staging and type of resection for rectal neuroendocrine tumors (R‐NETS) relies on preoperative identification lymph node (LN) involvement. Study objective was to develop a Preoperative Rectal Stratification Score (PReSS) LN‐positivity assess the association PReSS with overall survival (OS). Methods All patients in National Cancer Database (2004‐2014) non‐metastatic/nonfunctional R‐NETS were included. Tumor size divided into three categories (<1, 1‐2, ≥2 cm)....
The effects of blood transfusions on oncologic outcomes after surgery remain inconclusive. Thus, we examined the association between receiving a perioperative transfusion and in patients undergoing curative rectal cancer resection. The purpose this study was to assess with disease-free overall survival resection clinical stage I III cancer. We hypothesized that is associated worse patient cohort. This retrospective cohort using propensity score-matched analysis. The involved 6 tertiary academic...
The Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status (RBANS) is an assessment neuropsychological functioning commonly used in clinical and research settings. To our knowledge, normative data RBANS not available Hispanic, Mexican Americans, which current study sought to establish. Data from 136 Americans Project FRONTIER were analyzed. Approximately half sample was administered testing Spanish. Normative tables created English Spanish speaking Americans. Generated references...
