n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, namely docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic (EPA), reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease can ameliorate many obesity-associated disorders. We hypothesised that latter effect will be more pronounced when DHA/EPA is supplemented as phospholipids rather than triglycerides.

Polyunsaturated fatty acids of n-3 series (n-3 PUFA) were shown to increase basal fat oxidation in humans. The aim the study was compare effect PUFA added a very low calorie diet (VLCD), with VLCD only during three-week inpatient weight reduction. Twenty severely obese women randomly assigned or placebo. Fatty serum lipid fractions quantified by gas chromatography. Differences between groups determined using ANOVA. Higher (7.55+/-1.77 vs. 6.07+/-2.16 kg, NS), BMI (2.82+/-0.62 2.22+/-0.74,...

Elevated circulating lipid levels are known risk factors for cardiovascular diseases (CVD). In order to examine the effects of quercetin on metabolism, mice received a mild-high-fat diet without (control) or with supplementation 0.33% (w/w) 12 weeks. Gas chromatography and (1)H nuclear magnetic resonance were used quantitatively measure serum profiles. Whole genome microarray analysis liver tissue was identify possible mechanisms underlying altered levels. Body weight, energy intake hepatic...

Oxidative stress has been implicated in the pathogenesis of chronic pancreatitis (CP) and pancreatic cancer (PC). The study aim was to assess oxidative markers antioxidant defense system patients with CP those PC.Activities superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPX1), reductase (GR), arylesterase (PON1-A) lactonase (PON1-L) activities paraoxonase (PON1) concentrations reduced glutathione, conjugated dienes low-density lipoprotein (CD/LDL) oxidized LDL...

Pancreatic cancer (PC) ranks as the fourth cause of cancer-related deaths in Czech Republic. Evidence exists that deregulation fatty acid (FA) metabolism is connected with some malignancies; therefore, we decided to analyze FA profile plasma lipid classes patients PC relation tumor staging, nutritional status, and survival. The study included 84 (47 males, 37 females) 68 controls (36 32 females). patterns were analyzed by gas-chromatography. We observed increased proportion total...

Objective: In the pathogenesis of metabolic syndrome (MetS), an increase oxidative stress could play important role which is closely linked with insulin resistance, endothelial dysfunction, and chronic inflammation. The aim our study was to assess several parameters antioxidant status in MetS. Methods: 40 subjects MetS 40 age- sex-matched volunteers without were examined for activities superoxide dismutase (CuZnSOD),...

Fatty acid composition of adipose tissue changes with weight loss. Palmitoleic as a possible marker endogenous lipogenesis or its functions lipokine are under debate. Objective was to assess the predictive role triglycerides fatty acids in maintenance participants DIOGENES dietary intervention study.
