Abstract Background To retrospectively investigate the developmental outcomes at 3 years of age in patients with congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) using a multicenter collaborative research approach. Methods We evaluated CDH and no other malformations born between 2010 2016 seven facilities Japanese Research Group. The quotient (DQ) was Kyoto Scale Psychological Development 2001, most standardized scale Japan. Factors associated DQ score < 85 were also analyzed. Results Of 196...

Abstract Background No echocardiographic model, to the best of our knowledge, has been established predict future need for patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) surgery. This study aimed develop a novel predictive score (PLASE score) anticipating PDA surgery using PLASE database. Methods The included infants with gestational age (GA) < 30 weeks were allocated derivation and validation groups (2:1). Logistic regression models constructed utilizing three clinical indices measured at 3 days as...

Infants born in Japan are reported to have a low incidence of necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) among countries, and these differences remained significant after adjusting for common clinical factors. To investigate the impact ethnic background, we compared NEC between infants those mothers Japanese ethnicity California. Preterm 2008 2019 at 22–29 weeks gestational age were analyzed retrospectively. Four groups analyzed: (JP), California (JP-J), with but United States or another country...

The aim of this study was to assess whether periventricular leukomalacia findings are sufficiently sensitive for predicting the severity motor prognosis by conventional MRI in near term.Preterm infants with T1 hyperintensity or cysts regions on term were selected, and their gross functions evaluated at age 3 5 years. Sixty-two had cysts, except these findings, none diagnosed later as leukomalacia. All 37 patients cerebral palsy lesions corona radiata above posterior limb internal capsule...

Purpose To investigate the time-course changes and predictive utility of brain metabolite concentrations in neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE). Materials Methods Sixty-eight neonates (age, 35-41 gestational weeks) with HIE were admitted to a intensive care unit between September 2009 March 2016 examined by using proton MR spectroscopy at 18-96 hours (n = 25) 7-14 days 64) after birth (35-43 postmenstrual estimate deep gray matter. Adverse outcome was defined as death or...

Previous studies have highlighted the importance of confirming position an umbilical venous catheter (UVC) tip by ultrasound (US) examination. However, methods for preventing insertion into portal circulation under US guidance not yet been established. We report 15 cases in which a UVC was successfully passed through ductus venosus compressing upper abdomen near sinus liver to align vein and guidance. The inserted correct 14 neonates (93%) without complications.

Abstract Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) is a birth defect of the diaphragm in which abdominal organs herniate through into thoracic cavity. The main pathophysiology respiratory distress and persistent pulmonary hypertension because hypoplasia caused by compression elevated organs. Recent progress prenatal diagnosis postnatal care has led to an increase survival rate patients with CDH. However, some survivors experience mid‐ long‐term disabilities complications requiring treatment...

Treatment modalities for neonates with congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) have greatly improved in recent years, a concomitant increase survival. However, long-term outcomes restrict the identification of optimal care pathways CDH survivors adolescence and adulthood. Therefore, we evaluated within Japanese Study Group (JCDHSG).Participants were born between 2006 2018 according to JCDHSG. Participants enrolled database at 1.5, 3, 6, 12 years old. We implemented an online visitation system named "telepresence" in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for family members at home to communicate with their babies real-time using video and audio. This study evaluated impact of this on families medical staff. Nineteen admitted NICU between 2022 2023 65 staff participated. Each experienced two weeks virtual visits. Changes parental depression attachment were assessed. Before after telepresence, median Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale...

Objective C-reactive protein (CRP) is a useful marker of neonatal infection. Recent studies have shown that therapeutic hypothermia delays an elevation CRP in infants with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE). This study investigated the time difference peak levels serum and other inflammatory responses during hypothermia. Study design We prospectively studied serial data CRP, interleukin-6 (IL-6), procalcitonin (PCT), complete blood counts first week life HIE receiving Results identified...
