Abstract Most cases of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) have occurred in close contacts SARS patients. However, Beijing, a large proportion persons without such contact. We conducted case-control study Beijing that compared exposures 94 unlinked, probable patients with those 281 community-based controls matched for age group and sex. Case-patients were more likely than to chronic medical conditions or visited fever clinics (clinics at which possible separated from other patients),...

Macrolide resistance rates of Mycoplasma pneumoniae in the Beijing population were as high 68.9%, 90.0%, 98.4%, 95.4%, and 97.0% years 2008 to 2012, respectively. Common macrolide-resistant mobile genetic elements not detected with any isolate. These isolates came from multiple clones rather than same clone. No massive aggregation a particular clone was found specific period.

Many encapsulated bacteria use capsules to cause invasive diseases. However, it remains largely unknown how the enhance bacterial virulence under in vivo infection conditions. Here we show that primarily target liver survival at onset of blood-borne infections. In a mouse sepsis model, enabled human pathogens Streptococcus pneumoniae and Escherichia coli circumvent recognition liver-resident macrophage Kupffer cells (KCs) capsular serotype-dependent manner. contrast effective capture...

CoronaVac is an inactivated vaccine containing whole-virion SARS-CoV-2, which has been approved in 43 countries for emergency use as of 26 November 2021. However, the long-term immune persistence still unknown. Here, we reported status antibodies and cellular responses within 12 months after two doses CoronaVac. Such data are crucial to inform ongoing future vaccination strategies combat COVID-19.

Research has shown that high-dose supplemental dietary fiber intake beneficial effects on cardiovascular risk factors. To clarify such a relationship, we examined the association between daily and plasma lipids using cross-sectional design including 1034 (M 502, F 532) rural-to-urban workers in China. We found dose-response relationship increased intakes increase of HDL cholesterol male workers. There was also decreased total to (TC/HDL-C) ratio both female workers, after adjusting for...

Background Adenovirus is one of the most common causes viral acute respiratory infections. To identify types human adenoviruses (HAdVs) causing illness in Beijing, a sentinel surveillance project on aetiology infection was initiated 2011. Principal findings Through project, 4617 cases infections were identified during 2011-2013. Throat swabs (pharynx and tonsil secretions) collected from all patients, 15 different viruses screened by multiplex one-step PCR method. 45 as adenovirus-positive...

Abstract Background Diagnosis of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) caused by Mycoplasma pneumoniae in adults and adolescents is hampered a lack rapid standardized tests for detection. Methods CAP patients from 12 teaching hospitals were prospectively consecutively recruited. Basic clinical information, throat swabs paired sera collected. was detected IgG IgM antibody tests, fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction (FQ-PCR) culture. A comparative study the diagnostic values three...

Neutralizing antibody is an important indicator of vaccine efficacy, which IgG the main component. can be divided into four subclasses. Up to now, studies analysing humoral response SARS-CoV-2 vaccination have mostly focused on measuring total IgG, and contribution specific subclasses remains elusive. The aim this study investigate kinetics neutralizing antibodies subclasses, explore their relationships in people vaccinated with inactivated COVID-19 vaccine. We conducted a prospective cohort...

Abstract Although the prevalence of stroke and its risk factors has been widely reported in some Western countries, information on essential parameters is lacking China, most populous nation. A community-based cross-sectional study with 8,018 Chinese adults aged ≥40 years was used to determine associated factors. Within screened population, 2.21% for both sexes, 1.60% females, 3.18% males. Prevalence increased age sexes ( P < 0.0001). In a multivariable model, significantly were...
