Mechanical properties of thromboemboli play an important role in the efficacy endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) for acute ischemic stroke. However, very limited data on mechanical human stroke thrombi are available. We aimed to mechanically characterize retrieved with EVT, and assess relationship between thrombus composition stiffness.Forty-one from 19 patients who underwent EVT July October 2019 were analyzed, directly after EVT. performed unconfined compression experiments determined tangent...
Abstract Purpose The composition of thrombi retrieved during endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) due to large vessel occlusion (LVO) may differ depending on their origin. In this study, we investigated the association between thrombus and etiology a population patients from Dutch MR CLEAN Registry treated with EVT daily clinical practice. Methods 332 AIS were histologically analyzed for red blood cells (RBC), fibrin/platelets (F/P), white (leukocytes) using machine...
Background Endovascular catheters and devices used for thrombectomy in patients who had a stroke can damage the vessel lumen leading to microthrombi. During recanalisation, microthrombi could migrate distally occlude cerebral microvasculature, potentially limiting benefit of recanalisation therapy. Objectives To describe vascular injury occurring after endovascular therapy (EVT), with stent retrievers (SR) direct aspiration (DA), open up avenues further improvement EVT technique. Methods SR...
Thrombus radiomics (TR) describe complex shape and textural thrombus imaging features. We aimed to study the relationship of TR extracted from non-contrast CT with procedural functional outcome in endovascular-treated patients acute ischemic stroke.Thrombi were segmented on thin-slice (≤1 mm) 699 included MR CLEAN Registry. In a pilot study, we selected 51 consistent values across two raters' segmentations (ICC >0.75). Random forest models using addition or as substitute baseline clinical...
Thrombus computed tomography (CT) characteristics might be used to assess histopathologic thrombus composition in patients treated with endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) for acute ischemic stroke (AIS). We aimed the variability that could predicted combined CT characteristics.Thrombi of enrolled MR CLEAN Registry between March 2014 and June 2016 were histologically analyzed hematoxylin-eosin staining quantified percentages red blood cells (RBCs) fibrin/platelets. estimated association general...
Abstract Objectives Vertebrobasilar stenosis is frequent in patients with posterior circulation stroke and it increases risk of recurrence. We investigated feasibility duplex ultrasonography ( DUS ) for screening extracranial vertebral artery compared CT angiography CTA ). Materials Methods gathered data on 337 consecutive who had because or TIA . Matching studies were retrieved used as reference. Stenosis was considered “significant” if >50%, at Peak Systolic Velocity PSV > 140 cm/s...
Background: Reperfusion status after intra-arterial thrombectomy (IAT) is a critical predictor of functional outcome acute ischemic stroke. However, most prognostic models have not included detailed assessment reperfusion IAT. Objective: The aim this work was to assess the association between successful and clinical outcome. Methods: Clinical, radiological, procedural variables...
Currently, acute ischemic stroke is still a leading cause of mortality and morbidity. Approximately 2 years ago, mechanical thrombectomy was proven beneficial as revolutionary new therapy for in the MR-CLEAN trial (A Multicenter Randomized Clinical Trial Endovascular Treatment Acute Ischemic Stroke Netherlands). However, mechanisms by which device, or stent-retriever, interacts with thrombus are largely unknown. A better understanding could lead to improved efficacy devices.
OBJECTIVE Calcified cerebral emboli (CCE) are a rare cause of acute ischemic stroke. The authors aimed to assess the association CCE with functional outcome, successful reperfusion, and mortality. Furthermore, they effectiveness intravenous alteplase treatment endovascular (EVT), as well best first-line EVT approach in patients CCE. METHODS Multicenter Randomized Controlled Trial Endovascular Treatment for Acute Ischemic Stroke Netherlands (MR CLEAN) Registry is prospective, observational...

Abstract
Background Bow Hunter’s Syndrome (BHS) is caused by vertebrobasilar insufficiency due to mechanical occlusion during head rotation. This case of BHS highlights a rare presentation intermittent left-sided the vertebral artery cervical degenerative disease in patient with an anomaly posterior circulation circle Willis. The article depicts how neurological examination and imaging modalities could help clinicians their diagnostic approach context unusual BHS....
Intra-arterial treatment (IAT) improves outcomes in acute ischaemic stroke. Presence of collaterals increases likelihood good outcome. We investigated whether variations the circle Willis (CoW) and contributing carotid arteries influence outcome patients who had a stroke treated with IAT.CT angiography data on an IAT were retrospectively collected. CoW was regarded complete if contralateral A1 segment, anterior communicating artery ipsilateral posterior fully developed, P1 segment visible....
Abstract Background Mechanical arterial recanalization is increasingly used to treat acute ischemic stroke. Known inflict vascular injury, it might affect pro-thrombotic character and healing patterns. Stent-retriever thrombectomy (SR) direct aspiration (DA) are both for not only lead endothelial denudation, but also platelet activation local formation of microthrombi, potentially adding the risk distal embolization. Purpose We aimed quantify characterize endovascular damage, microthrombus...
