Duroc-cross pigs (n = 25) were assigned to one of three experimental finishing diets containing 0 (control), 40,000 (40), or 80,000 (80) IU supplemental vitamin D3/kg feed (as-fed basis)to test the effects D3 on pork quality traits. Experimental fed for 44 51 d before slaughter, and days blocked in design. A trend existed receiving highest concentration supplementation have a lower (P 0.08) ADG (0.77 kg/d) compared with either 40-diet (0.88 control (0.92 kg/d). Diet did not > 0.10) affect...

ABSTRACT: Repeatability of Warner‐Bratzler shear (WBS) force in beef loin strip steaks was determined using a small kitchen clam‐shell grill (GRILL), oven roasting (OVEN), or broiling (BROIL). Cooking time for the GRILL method (7.0 min) shorter, and OVEN (22.8 longer compared with BROIL cooking (17.5 min, P < 0.001). WBS values across all methods ranged from 1.5 to 7.5 kg. relatively high (r = 0.83), 0.88), 0.88) methods. Grilling an inexpensive is acceptable research purposes.

This experiment was conducted to determine the effect of high levels supplemental Cu (as CuSO4·5H2O) on serum lipid profile and carcass traits goat kids. Fifteen Boer × Spanish wether kids (BW = 21.3 ± 0.7 kg) were housed in individual pens assigned randomly 1 3 treatments. Treatments consisted 1) control (no additional Cu), 2) 100 mg Cu/d, 3) 200 Cu/d. Copper sulfate placed gelatin capsules inserted into esophagus via a balling gun before morning feeding. Animals fed high-concentrate (70:30...

The histidine-rich Ca-binding protein (HRC) is a Ca-storage in cardiac sarcoplasmic reticulum. Recent transgenic studies revealed that this inhibits the maximal rates of reticulum Ca-transport, leading to dysfunction. In view role Ca-cycling myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury, we designed study gain further insight into HRC during ischemia/reperfusion.The mouse model with cardiac-specific overexpression was utilized and contractile parameters were assessed before after injury by...
