Abstract Kidney transplantation is the most effective and cheapest treatment for terminal kidney failure. The programme limited by shortage of organs from deceased donors, therefore in many countries Slovakia a complementary living donors has been established years. Until recently, addition to negative cross-examination, an important condition was compatibility ABO system, but development elimination methods ensuring removal specific isoagglutinins availability immunomodulatory biologic...
<i>Background:</i> Data on the efficacy and safety of long-term vitamin D supplementation in chronic kidney disease (CKD) are scarce. We assessed effects 12-month D3 treatment mineral metabolism calciotropic hormones patients with CKD stages 2–4. <i>Methods:</i> Eighty-seven (mean age 66 years, men/women 33/54) were randomized to cholecalciferol either 5,000 or 20,000 IU/week. Serum calcium, phosphate, 25(OH)D3,...
ABSTRACT Background Large international differences exist in kidney transplantation (KT) rates. We aimed to investigate which factors may explain the total, deceased donor and living KT rates over last decade. Methods experts from 39 European countries completed Kidney Transplantation Rate Survey on measures barriers their potential effect rate country. In analyses, were divided into low, middle high based at start of study period 2010. Results Experts low reported more frequently that they...
Background: Human leukocyte antigen G (HLA-G) belongs to nonclassical HLA I molecule involving in the suppression of immune response. Besides its profound effect induce fetal tolerance, HLA-G expression has been associated with allograft acceptance. For regulation levels, polymorphic sites within 3′ untranslated region (3′UTR) are crucial importance. The aim study was analyze association between several 3′UTR variants (+3003T/C, +3010C/G, +3027C/A, +3035C/T, +3142G/C, +3187A/G, and...
Malignancies are one of the three major causes renal recipient´s death with a functioning graft after cardiovascular diseases and infections. Among variety risk factors, including conventional specific to transplant recipients, duration immunosuppressive therapy, intensity type agent all have an impact on development post-transplant malignancy. The aim our retrospective study was document incidence, malignancies, patient/graft survival in group kidney recipients Slovak Republic, identify...
AIM: This article presents the development of a novel preparation and processing method as well indication for clinical applications human allogeneic acellular dermal matrix, which was developed originally in Central Tissue Bank (CTB) use burn medicine reconstructive surgery.METHODS: Acellular matrix (ADM) is biological material assigned utilization several surgical procedures due to its unique structure advantageous properties. The focuses on by CTB, differs impact structure, biomechanical...
This study analyzed the long-term outcomes of localized prostate cancer in renal transplant recipients after radiotherapy treatment -mainly brachytherapy. We retrospectively clinical data between 2003 and 2016 at a single tertiary center, identified four patients with high serum PSA level during regular follow-up, 1-108 months primary transplantation. The mean age detected 9.25µg/l median was 59.05 years. All had functioning grafts. To prove cancer, they underwent trans-rectal biopsy, no...
Our study was to assess the impact of kidney transplantation on restless legs syndrome (RLS) in end stage renal disease (ESRD) patients.A total 75 patients after a successful (39 males, 36 females) were assessed consecutively. All completed self reported questionnaire focused RLS 6 months with investigation selected laboratory parameters. The met International Restless Legs Syndrome Study Group criteria for diagnosis.30 (40.54%) out diagnostic criteria. From this positive group, 8 (26.7%)...
Autosomal-dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is an inherited that results in multiple cysts, and it a common cause of end-stage renal disease. Recent studies have shown progression can be slowed by simultaneous disruption the primary cilium polycystins. The exact genetic mechanism this process still unknown. aim present study was to characterize mutation profile ciliary signalling pathways epithelial cells ADPKD patients. In our study, we performed analysis 110 genes encoding...
Abstract Human leukocyte antigen G (HLA-G) is a non-classical HLA class I protein with various immunosuppressive functions. Besides its profound effect to induce fetal tolerance, HLA-G has been also found enhance graft acceptance. The aim of the study was analyse association between 14 bp insertion/deletion polymorphism, soluble level and kidney outcome in Slovak population. We investigated 69 transplant recipients aged 27–65 years. Out this group, 37 developed acute rejection, confirmed by...
The CONCERTO study results showing the beneficial effects of conversion from cyclosporine to tacrolimus prolonged-release (tacrolimus PR) in stabilised patients after kidney transplantation, were first published 2011. This communication describes our experience PR transplant patients. aim was determine whether it could be used routine clinical practice Czech and Slovak Republics.Evaluation carried out at five transplantation centres Republic Slovakia. In all participating Centres, drug...
Background: The aim of our analysis was to evaluate the impact COVID-19 pandemic on procurement program and kidney transplantation in Slovakia identify risk factors for a severe course disease, as well fatalities, with focus parameters preceding infection. Methods: 305 KTRs (68.8% males) confirmed SARS-CoV-2 positivity were included multicentric retrospective analysis. Results: transplants dropped observed period by 28.6% (P<0.0001) 33.5% respectively. Age over 59 years (OR=1.03,...
Renal transplantation is the treatment of choice for patients with end-stage renal disease. In last decade, number older transplant recipients has significantly increased. However, these are at a higher risk developing post-transplant complications. Therefore, identifying suitable biomarkers to predict which complications crucial. Cellular senescence could provide insights into increased vulnerability in this population and guide personalized care.
Abstract Background: Chronic kidney disease represents a world-wide health problem affecting approximately 195 million women around the world. Risk of development chronic is greater in women; therefore, World Kidney Day 2018 was dedicated to disease, treatment options, and its specifics female patients. Materials Methods: We retrospectively analysed cohort 1,457 patients after transplantation from all transplant centres Slovakia over period ten years 2005 – 2015.The parameters taken into...
