In addition to its role as an inhibitory neurotransmitter, γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is presumed be involved in the development and plasticity of nervous system. GABA synthesized by glutamic decarboxylase (GAD), but respective roles two isoforms (GAD65 67) have not been determined. The selective elimination each GAD isoform gene targeting expected clarify these issues. Recently we produced GAD65 −/− mice demonstrated that lack does change brain contents or animal behavior, except for a...
Since heparin-binding epidermal growth factor (HB-EGF) is a member of the EGF family and binds to receptor, we tested recombinant HB-EGF for its ability stimulate human keratinocyte proliferation. The effect on keratinocytes was dependent cell density. optimally increased number by 1.8-fold at 1.0 ng/ml 4-day incubation period under subconfluent culture. In contrast, confluent culture, 10 DNA synthesis 2.1-fold. To examine production keratinocytes, analysis keratinocyte-conditioned medium...
There is substantial evidence that dendritic cells (DC) residing within epithelial surfaces (e.g., Langerhans cells) are the initial infected with HIV after mucosal exposure to virus. To study DC-HIV interactions in detail, we propagated cell-like DC from cord blood CD34(+) and adult plastic-adherent PBMC presence of cytokines (GM-CSF, IL-4, and/or TNF-alpha). pulsed overnight HIVBaL or HIVIIIB were productively both viral subtypes (as assessed by PCR, supernatant p24 protein levels,...
Abstract Drug‐induced hypersensitivity syndrome/drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms ( DIHS / DRESS ) is a severe adverse drug caused by specific drug. It characterized visceral organ involvement reactivation of various human herpesviruses. Although sporadic reports have documented certain conditions that appear after the resolution , little information available on sequelae in large patient population. The A sian Research Committee Severe Cutaneous Adverse Reactions,...
Abstract: Peripheral nerve sheath tumors can include neurofibroma, schwannoma, and perineurioma, with hybrid tumor (HNST) being rare. We describe 3 HNST cases epithelioid schwannoma neurofibroma features, an uncommon manifestation of schwannoma/neurofibroma. The involved the upper back, forearm, thigh. Histopathologically, were located in subcutis or dermis subcutis. component showed nests/cords cells round nuclei abundant cytoplasm. In contrast, spindle cell proliferation within myxoid...
F10 and BL6 sublines of B16 mouse melanoma cells are metastatic after intravenous injection, but only subcutaneous injection. We found that connexin (Cx) 26 is upregulated in cells. To examine gap junction formation, we devised a coculture system, which an opened vein segment was placed at the bottom culture dish then dye-labeled were seeded onto it. Immunohistochemistry indicated preserved integrity endothelial monolayer. In this could transfer dye into not. Transfection with wild-type Cx26...
We isolated a novel gene, termed MLZE, from B16-BL6 cDNA library after subtraction of B16-F10 mRNA. Expression levels mouse MLZE (mMLZE) increased in accordance with metastatic ability B16 melanoma sublines. Human homolog mMlze (hMlze) contained one leucine zipper structure and two potential nuclear localizing signals. Northern blot analysis multiple human tissues showed that hMLZE was expressed primarily trachea spleen. mapped the gene (by fluorescence situ hybridization) to 8q24.1 - 2,...
Many cross-sectional studies have examined the incidences of herpes zoster (HZ) and postherpetic neuralgia (PHN), but prospective in Japanese older adults are lacking. Therefore, we conducted a community-based cohort study to determine incidence aged ≥50 years. We recruited 12 522 participants from Shozu County, Kagawa Prefecture, between December 2008 November 2009 followed for 3 years. When subject presented with symptoms suggestive HZ, they were at collaborating medical institutions...
Abstract Stevens– J ohnson syndrome ( SJS ) and toxic epidermal necrolysis TEN are rare life‐threatening cutaneous adverse drug reactions. While there is no established therapy for / , systemic corticosteroids, plasma exchange i.v. immunoglobulin IVIG have been used as treatment. The efficacy of still controversial because total doses vary greatly from one study to another. aim this was evaluate the administrated 5 days consecutively, in an open‐label, multicenter, single‐arm patients with...
Abstract Drug‐induced hypersensitivity syndrome (DIHS) is one of the severe drug eruptions accompanied by fever and multiple organ dysfunction, it induced a relatively limited range drugs, including anticonvulsants. A distinctive feature this condition its association with reactivation herpes viruses, particularly human herpesvirus 6. The pathogenesis involves two key factors: allergy reactivation. DIHS often challenging to diagnose in early stages, clinical course varies widely, ranging...
Background Holistic medical practices, including meditation and mindfulness, are increasingly recognized for their benefits in mental health stress reduction, with applications clinical settings. However, effects on older adults mild cognitive impairment (MCI) remain underexplored. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of loosening meditation, a brief accessible practice we developed, this population. Methods Nine MCI, defined by Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) scores 21-28 during...
This manuscript presents a detailed case study of familial instances Pseudoxanthoma Elasticum (PXE)-like syndrome, focusing on the elevation vitamin K absence or antagonist-II (PIVKA-II) as potential biomarker. Our findings suggest that PIVKA-II may serve sensitive marker for pathophysiology PXE-like and we propose supplementation could be beneficial in managing this disorder.
A polymerase chain reaction system for the detection of varicella-zoster virus was established. Of 25 nucleotides, 4 oligonucleotide pairs (regions thymidine kinase, thymidylate synthetase, glycoprotein I, and immediate early gene) were synthesized. The first three could be used as primers on basis specific DNA amplification. Varicella-zoster amplified by this in 20 vesicle samples, 5 6 crusts, 12 13 throat swabs collected from patients with clinical varicella.
