There are limited data on the impact of bariatric surgery microvascular complications type 2 diabetes (T2D), particularly diabetic neuropathy. We assessed (especially neuropathy) in obese patients with T2D before and 12 months after surgery. This was a prospective observational cohort study. Measurements neuropathy symptom profile (NSP), disability score (NDS), vibration (VPT), cold (CPT) warm (WPT) perception thresholds, nerve conduction studies (NCS) corneal confocal microscopy (CCM) to...
Hypercholesterolaemia is amongst the most common conditions encountered in medical profession. It remains one of key modifiable cardiovascular risk factors and there have been recent advances stratification methods treatment options available. In this review, we provide a background into hypercholesterolaemia for non-specialists consider merits different assessment tools available. We also detailed considerations as to: i) when to start treatment, ii) what targets aim iii) role low density...
Obesity is a major modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Bariatric surgery considered to be the most effective treatment option weight reduction in obese patients with and without type 2 diabetes (T2DM).To evaluate changes lipoproteins, insulin resistance, mediators of systemic vascular inflammation, endothelial dysfunction following Roux-en-Y bariatric diabetes.Lipoproteins, were measured 37 (n = 17) 20) T2DM, before 6 12 months after surgery. Two way between subject ANOVA was...
Major depressive disorder (MDD) is the most prevalent mental health globally. However, association between symptom trajectories in early period and subsequent outcomes remains not fully elucidated. This study aimed to delineate during initial phase of treatment, identify baseline characteristics associated with these trajectories, explore quality life suicidal ideation. Participants were from Depression Cohort China. The diagnosis MDD was assessed using Mini-International Neuropsychiatric...
Serum paraoxonase (PON1) is an enzyme associated with HDL, and its ability to protect LDL from oxidation one mechanism by which HDL protects against atherosclerosis. Low concentrations of PON1 are found in patients type 2 diabetes or coronary heart disease. activity may also be important avoidance organophosphate toxicity industry. The generally accepted method for determining requires use a recording spectrophotometer not suited large numbers samples; addition, automation presents particular...
The Gate-Induce-Drain-Leakage (GIDL)-assisted body biasing for erase, which is a technique essential to enabling 3DNAND Flash CMOS Under Array architectures, has been extensively studied and successfully optimized achieve high-performance, reliable erase operation. This paper reviews the main features of GIDL-assisted GIDL optimization methods ensuring best effectiveness variability control. Finally, excellent reliability selector gate devices over Program/Erase cycles demonstrated, proving...
Purpose: Obesity is associated with peripheral neuropathy, which bariatric surgery may ameliorate. The aim of this study was to assess whether corneal confocal microscopy can show a change in nerve morphology and keratocyte density subjects severe obesity after surgery. Methods: Twenty obese patients diabetes (n = 13) without 7) underwent assessment hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), lipids, IL-6, highly sensitive C-reactive protein (hsCRP), before 12 months Corneal fiber (CNFD), branch (CNBD), length...
Abstract Obesity and associated dyslipidemia may contribute to increased cardiovascular disease. has also been with neuropathy. We have investigated presence of peripheral nerve damage in patients severe obesity without type 2 diabetes the status metabolic syndrome lipoprotein abnormalities. 47participants 30 age-matched healthy controls underwent detailed phenotyping neuropathy an assessment lipoproteins HDL-functionality. Participants had a higher symptom profile, lower sural peroneal...
Emerging evidence suggests an association between impaired high-density lipoprotein (HDL) functionality and cardiovascular disease (CVD). HDL is essential for reverse cholesterol transport (RCT) reduces inflammation oxidative stress principally via paraoxonase-1 (PON1). RCT depends on HDL's capacity to accept (cholesterol efflux [CEC]) active through ATP-binding cassette (ABC) A1, G1, scavenger receptor-B1 (SR-B1). We have studied the impact of Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) in morbidly...
We present a new metal-insulator-metal (MIM)-based plasmonic Bragg reflector (PBR) design that solves the technical problems of conventional step profile MIM PBRs through use sawtooth profiles. Our numerical study revealed exhibit lower insertion loss, narrower bandgap, and reduced rippling in transmission spectrum when compared with PBRs. The defect mode PBR also exhibits higher transmission, linewidth, Q-factor.
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) complicates morbid obesity and is associated with increased cardiovascular disease incidence. An increase in the circulating markers of chronic inflammation dysfunctional high-density lipoprotein (HDL) occur severe obesity. The objective study was to establish whether effects on HDL dysfunction are more marked when complicated by OSA.Morbidly obese patients (n = 41) were divided into those whose apnea-hypoapnea index (AHI) or less than median value presence OSA...
Background The aim of this study was to explore the influence extended‐release niacin/laropiprant ( ERN / LRP ) versus placebo on high‐density lipoprotein HDL antioxidant function, cholesterol efflux, apolipoprotein B100 (apoB)‐containing lipoproteins, and mediators vascular inflammation associated with 15% increase in ‐C). Study patients had persistent dyslipidemia despite receiving high‐dose statin treatment. Methods Results In a randomized double‐blind, placebo‐controlled, crossover...
Reaven originally described the clustering of insulin resistance/hyperinsulinaemia, obesity (particularly visceral), altered cytokine levels, glucose intolerance, hypertriglyceridaemia and low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. Subsequently, a potentially highly atherogenic small, dense low-density was also reported. We have studied effect bariatric surgery on this other risk factors for atherosclerosis.Forty patients (20 with type 2 diabetes mellitus) undergoing were before 1 year after...
Context Multiple factors contribute to sexual dysfunction in men with obesity. Sex hormone levels are commonly abnormal obesity and this abnormality is often the focus of management clinical practice. The role small fibre neuropathy obesity-related not well established. Objective We aimed investigate relationship between function, sex nerve morphology severe Materials methods A prospective study 29 was undertaken. Sexual function assessed using European Male Ageing Study Function...
