SALL1 is a mammalian homolog of the Drosophilaregion-specific homeotic gene spalt (sal); heterozygous mutations in humans lead to Townes-Brocks syndrome. We have isolated mouse (Sall1) and found that mice deficient Sall1 die perinatal period kidney agenesis or severe dysgenesis are present. expressed metanephric mesenchyme surrounding ureteric bud; homozygous deletion ofSall1 results an incomplete bud outgrowth, failure tubule formation apoptosis mesenchyme. This phenotype likely be...
Subtype 2 of the metabotropic glutamate receptor (mGluR2) is expressed in presynaptic elements hippocampal mossy fiber-CA3 synapses. Knockout mice deficient mGluR2 showed no histological changes and alterations basal synaptic transmission, paired-pulse facilitation, or tetanus-induced long-term potentiation (LTP) at Long-term depression (LTD) induced by low-frequency stimulation, however, was almost fully abolished. The mutant performed normally water maze learning tasks. Thus, essential for...
Oxygen radicals, which can be produced through normal cellular metabolism, are thought to play an important role in mutagenesis and tumorigenesis. Among various classes of oxidative DNA damage, 8-oxo-7,8-dihydroguanine (8-oxoG) is most because its abundance mutagenicity. The MTH1 gene encodes enzyme that hydrolyzes 8-oxo-dGTP monophosphate the nucleotide pool, thereby preventing occurrence transversion mutations. By means targeting, we have established gene-knockout cell lines mice. When...
Several phospholipase C (PLC) isoforms have been found in male and female mammalian gametes, splicing of PLCdelta4 are predominantly expressed testis. Here we report that mice which the gene had disrupted either produced few small litters or were sterile. In vitro fertilization studies showed insemination with PLCdelta4-/- sperm resulted significantly fewer eggs becoming activated calcium transients associated absent delayed. unable to initiate acrosome reaction, an exocytotic event required...
Airway epithelial cilia protect the mammalian respiratory system from harmful inhaled materials by providing force necessary for effective mucociliary clearance. Ciliary beating is asymmetric, composed of clearly distinguished and recovery strokes. Neither importance nor essential components responsible asymmetry has been directly elucidated. We report here that crucial ciliary function requires tubulin glutamylation, a unique posttranslational modification highly abundant in cilia. WT...
Dentatorubral-pallidoluysian atrophy (DRPLA) is one among an increasing number of hereditary neurodegenerative diseases determined as being caused by unstable expansion CAG repeats coding for polyglutamine stretches. To investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying repeat instability, we established three transgenic lines each harboring a single copy full-length human mutant DRPLA gene carrying expansion. These mice exhibited age-dependent increase (+0.31 per year) in male transmission and...
<h3>BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE:</h3> Few studies have investigated the relationship between ADC and clinical outcome in HNSCC. Our hypothesis has that relatively high pretreatment would correlate with local failure of HNSCC treated radiation therapy. <h3>MATERIALS METHODS:</h3> This includes prospective validation studies. Seventeen patients therapy for primary completed study. Variables considered to affect including MR imaging–related parameters such as its change ratio were compared controls,...
To prevent sudden cardiac death (SCD) in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), the HCM Risk-SCD calculator and guideline recommendations are used to aid decision making for implantable cardioverter-defibrillator placement. The aim of this study was assess clinical profiles occurrence SCD by phenotypes validate performance current guidelines from a large-scale Japanese multicenter registry. This retrospective, multicenter, observational, longitudinal cohort that enrolled 3,611...
We studied the clinical and echocardiographic features of eight patients with infective pulmonary valve endocarditis. In two patients, vegetation was limited to valve; in six other lesions were also present on mitral or aortic valves. None addicted narcotics. Seven had underlying congenital heart disease. organism responsible for endocarditis Streptococcus viridans. Two-dimensional echocardiography performed using a wide-angle sector scanner more useful than M-mode evaluating
We developed metal–insulator–semiconductor-type organic light-emitting transistors (MIS-OLETs), and improved their properties by optimizing the device structure. MIS-OLETs showed a maximum drain current of ID = -149 µA, luminance 1034 cd/m2 (VD -20 V, VG -50 V) on/off ratio over 104. Moreover an active-matrix display using on plastic substrate was fabricated. The 16×16 active-matrix-drive (AMOLET) excellent
As a part of our studies selectin blockers, we prepared 1-deoxy-3'-O-sulfo Lex analogs (1−3), 1-deoxy-3'-O-phosphono (4), and 1-deoxy sLex (5−7), examined their inhibitory activities against natural ligand (sLex) binding to E-selectin, P-selectin, L-selectin. The 5 was up 20 times more potent an inhibitor than the tetrasaccharide toward P- L-selectin binding. This indicates that modification 1 or 2 position is useful in design blocker.
The authors report the characteristics of novel metal-insulator-semiconductor-type organic light-emitting transistors (MIS-OLETs). drain current and luminescent intensity MIS-OLET can be controlled by changing hole injection carriers applying a gate bias voltage. In addition, high performance (400cd∕m2 at VD=−8V) MIS-OLETs fabricated on plastic substrate as well glass is demonstrated described.
Abstract This study aims to evaluate outcomes of a community‐based program prevent suicide among the elderly (≥65 years old) using quasi‐experimental design with two neighboring references. During 1999–2004, including depression screening and group activity was conducted by public health nurses in Minami district (population 1685) Nagawa town, rural Japan. Pre‐post changes risk completing were estimated incidence rate ratios (IRR). The for Minami's females reduced 74% (age‐adjusted IRR,...
Abstract This study offers an analysis of the elderly (over 65 years age) among a general community population in terms percentages of: (i) persons with recurring thoughts death and/or committing suicide, and (ii) people who have consulted others, including medical professionals, regard to these problems. Among 433 over age one town Aomori Prefecture, 358 agreed participate project. Forty‐four participants (12.3%) responded that they had either ‘thoughts death’ or suicide’, continued for...
A numerical method for the analysis of absorption spectrum and refractive index change due to an external electric field in quantum-well structures is presented. The finite-element variational are used obtain subband exciton energies a structure, respectively. band-to-band excitonic transitions then calculated, obtained using Kramers-Kronig relations. This applicable with arbitrary potential profiles made semiconductors, because it based on which general boundary condition heterointerface...
Abstract Accumulation of β‐amyloid protein (Aβ) in the brain is a hallmark Alzheimer's disease (AD), and Aβ‐mediated pathogenesis could result from increased production Aβ or insufficient clearance by microglia, astrocytes, vascular system. Cell‐surface receptors, such as scavenger might play critical role binding clearing Aβ; however, responsible receptors have yet to be identified. We show that receptor with C‐type lectin (SRCL), member family containing coiled‐coil, collagen‐like,...
