Dentatorubral-pallidoluysian atrophy (DRPLA) is one among an increasing number of hereditary neurodegenerative diseases determined as being caused by unstable expansion CAG repeats coding for polyglutamine stretches. To investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying repeat instability, we established three transgenic lines each harboring a single copy full-length human mutant DRPLA gene carrying expansion. These mice exhibited age-dependent increase (+0.31 per year) in male transmission and...

BACKGROUND/AIMS Endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) is considered the most useful diagnostic modality for regional staging; however, it still difficult to diagnose lymph node metastasis by EUS images only. In this study, we report usefulness of contrast-enhanced (CE-EUS) in evaluation benign nodes (BLN) or malignant (MLN) based on blood flow patterns. SUBJECTS AND METHODS retrospective CE-EUS was performed 46 patients whom revealed mediastinum abdominal cavity. The subjects consisted 22 with...

Calcific aortic valve stenosis (CAVS) is the most common valvular heart disease and increased with elderly population. However, effective drug therapy has not been established yet. This study aimed to investigate role of microRNAs (miRs) in development CAVS.We measured expression 10 miRs, which were reportedly involved calcification by using human tissue from patients who underwent replacement CAVS or regurgitation (AR) porcine interstitial cells (AVICs) after treatment osteogenic induction...

Hypertension is a major public health problem among the aging population worldwide. It causes cardiac remodeling, including hypertrophy and interstitial fibrosis, which leads to development of hypertensive heart disease (HHD). Although microRNA-21 (miR-21) associated with fibrogenesis in multiple organs, its contribution remodeling hypertension poorly understood. Circulating miR-21 level was higher patients HHD than that control subjects. also positively correlated serum myocardial fibrotic...

Abstract Huntington's disease (HD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the expansion of CAG repeats in exon 1 HD gene. To clarify instability expanded patients, an model mouse has been generated gene replacement with human to 77 repeats. Chimeric proteins composed mutated and huntingtin are expressed ubiquitously brain peripheral tissues. One or two repeat was found litters from paternal transmission, whereas contraction observed through maternal transmission. Elderly mice show...

The prognosis of peripheral artery disease (PAD) and comorbid sarcopenia is poor. Some reports indicate that the computed tomography (CT) value skeletal muscle, which reflects intramuscular fat deposition as well muscle mass, considered a marker sarcopenia. However, it remains unclear if area CT are associated with poor outcomes in patients PAD. Methods Results: Psoas were measured by manual trace at level third lumbar vertebral body 327 consecutive PAD undergoing endovascular therapy (EVT)....

We examined cross-sectional areas of Meissner's corpuscles to evaluate the changes in their morphology and density that occur during aging process. Our study 10 tissue specimens from right index finger pulp males, showed both size number decrease with age. claim greater accuracy our data thanks use a new sectioning method, namely parallel skin.

A method for the facile synthesis of ethene-bridged terthiophenes (EBTTs) in two steps has been developed. The first step is a double Sonogashira coupling between 3',4'-dibromo-2,2':5',2″-terthiophene and terminal alkynes to give dialkynylated terthiophenes, second cyclization reaction afford EBTTs. fundamental physical properties EBTTs were also studied.

The HECT (homologous to the E6-AP carboxyl terminus)-type ubiquitin E3 ligase ITCH is an enzyme that plays important role in ubiquitin-proteasomal protein degradation. Disheveled proteins (Dvl1 [disheveled 1], Dvl2, and Dvl3) are main components of Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway, which involved cardiac hypertrophy. aim this study was examine during development Thoracic transverse aortic constriction (TAC) performed transgenic mice with cardiac-specific overexpression (ITCH-Tg) wild-type...

We report a Japanese family with ataxia isolated vitamin E deficiency (AVED). Gene analysis revealed single nucleotide substitution of T to C at position 2 in the alpha-tocopherol transfer protein gene (TTPA). This abolishes start codon. The proband and his affected sister were homozygous for this mutation, their serum concentrations remarkably reduced. Relations between mutations clinical features are discussed.

It has been the accepted opinion that there are one million nerve fibres in human medullary pyramid. This seemed to be confirmed several old reports. But we cannot agree with this opinion. We made nitrocelluloseembedded sections from three normal male brains, and stained them by our modification of Masson-Goldner method. With method, myelinated axons appeared blue, whereas glial processes were coloured red. which allowed easy discrimination between two. After morphometric evaluation...
