ALICE is the heavy-ion experiment at CERN Large Hadron Collider. The continuously took data during first physics campaign of machine from fall 2009 until early 2013, using proton and lead-ion beams. In this paper we describe running environment handling procedures, discuss performance detectors analysis methods for various observables.
We have observed a clear peak below the ${\ensuremath{\Sigma}}^{+}$-production threshold in ${}^{4}\mathrm{He}({K}^{\ensuremath{-}},{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}})$ reaction at $600\mathrm{MeV}/c$ and ${\ensuremath{\theta}}_{K\ensuremath{\pi}}{\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}4}^{\ensuremath{\circ}}$. This is confirmation of existence bound state ${}_{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}^{4}\mathrm{He}$, which was reported...
We report on the measurement of freeze-out radii for pairs identical-charge pions measured in Pb-Pb collisions at sNN=2.76 TeV as a function collision centrality and average transverse momentum pair kT. Three-dimensional sizes system (femtoscopic radii), well direction-averaged one-dimensional are extracted. The decrease with kT, following power-law behavior. This is qualitatively consistent expectations from collectively expanding system, produced hydrodynamic calculations. also scale...
Measurements of the production forward jets from transversely polarized proton collisions at s=500 GeV conducted Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) are reported. Our measured jet cross section is consistent with hard scattering expectations. analyzing power for small and positive, provides constraints on Sivers functions that related to partonic orbital angular momentum through theoretical models.
The absorption of positive pions on N and Ar has been studied for ${T}_{{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}}=118,$ 162, 239 MeV. A precise determination made the total cross section each energy target nucleus. Comparisons are with prior LADS results ${}^{2}\mathrm{H},$ ${}^{3}\mathrm{He},$ ${}^{4}\mathrm{He}.$ In addition, presented detected multiplicities emitted protons, neutrons, deuterons following pion absorption.
ALICE (A Large Ion Collider Experiment) is a detector dedicated to the studies with heavy ion collisions exploring physics of strongly interacting nuclear matter and quark-gluon plasma at CERN LHC (Large Hadron Collider). After second long shutdown LHC, Experiment will be upgraded make high precision measurements rare probes low pT, which cannot selected trigger, therefore require very large sample events recorded on tape. The online computing system completely redesigned address major...
Results from a 4π solid angle measurement of the reactions 3He(π+,ppp) and 4He(π+,ppp)n at incident pion energies Tπ+=70, 118, 162, 239, 330 MeV are presented. For 3He total absorption cross sections their decomposition into two-proton three-proton components evaluated; for 4He given. The differential distributions multinucleon mode both nuclei analyzed compared to each other by making use complete set variables. data investigated signatures initial final state interactions: it is found that...
We report measurements of forward jets and dijets produced in Cu+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=200$ GeV the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. also dijet production cross sections p+p $\sqrt{s}=510$ GeV. use invariant mass to search for indications new particles. The results are compatible with string fragmentation models tuned fit LHC data. jet far exceed Feynman scaling limits, that incorporate fusion increase parton energy, acting as a QCD accelerator. can be mostly explained by double...
A tagged medium-energy neutron beam was used in a precise measurement of the absolute differential cross section for $\mathit{np}$ backscattering. The results resolve significant discrepancies within database concerning angular dependence this regime. experiment has determined normalization with $\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}1.5%$ uncertainty, suitable to verify constraints supposedly comparable precision that arise from rest partial wave analyses. analysis procedures, especially those...
We describe a double-scattering experiment with novel tagged neutron beam to measure differential cross sections for np backscattering better than +/-2% absolute precision. The measurement focuses on angles and energies where the section magnitude angle dependence constrain charged pion-nucleon coupling constant, but existing data show serious discrepancies among themselves energy-dependent partial-wave analyses. present results are in good accord analyses, deviate systematically from other...
This paper presents a large solid angle measurement of the positive pion absorption cross section on 4He and its decomposition into partial channels. The total sections at incident kinetic energies Tπ+=70, 118, 162, 239 MeV are 35±5, 52±4, 51±5, 27±2 mb, respectively. These values lower than those reported in some previous experiments. At all fraction is due to multinucleon channels.Received 2 September 1997DOI:https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevC.58.942©1998 American Physical Society
The $({K}_{\text{stopped}}^{\ensuremath{-}},{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0})$ strangeness and charge changing reaction was investigated by producing a $_{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}^{12}\mathrm{B}$ hypernucleus from carbon target. branching ratio for ${K}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ capture to the ground $p$-shell states of this found be $(0.28\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.08)\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}3}$...
