The purification and chemical properties of thymosin, obtained from bovine thymus tissue, are described. biological activity the thymic hormone has been assessed by a newly developed rosette assay, which permits measurement thymus-dependent lymphoid cells. Thymosin is associated with physico-chemically homogeneous protein molecular weight 12,600. hormonal evident in vitro incubation after injection into adult thymectomized mice, prolonging survival neonatally mice reconstitution their...

Diabetes results from an absolute or relative reduction in pancreatic beta cell mass (BCM) leading to insufficient insulin secretion and hyperglycemia. Measurement of secretory capacity is currently used as a surrogate measure BCM. However, serum concentrations provide imprecise index BCM, no reliable noninvasive BCM available. Type 2 vesicular monoamine transporters (VMAT2) are expressed human islet cells, well tissues the CNS. [11C]Dihydrotetrabenazine ([11C]DTBZ) binds specifically VMAT2...

Abstract The purpose of our study was to identify transcripts specific for tissue-restricted, membrane-associated proteins in human islets that, turn, might serve as markers healthy or diseased islet cell masses. Using oligonucleotide chips, we obtained gene expression profiles comparison with the exocrine pancreas, liver, and kidney tissue. As periislet presence type 1 interferon is associated development diabetes, profile treated ex vivo interferon-α2β (IFNα2β) also determined. A set genes...

Abstract A patient with classic clinical and biochemical features of tumor-induced osteomalacia (hypophosphatemia, phosphaturia, undetectable serum concentrations 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D [1,25(OH)2D]) was studied before after resection a benign extraskeletal chondroma from the plantar surface foot. Presurgical laboratory evaluation notable for normal calcium, intact parathyroid hormone (PTH), hormone-related protein (PTHrP), osteocalcin, increased alkaline phosphatase activity, frankly...

Vitamin A palmitate was incorporated into a laboratory chow (150,000 IU/kg diet) and fed ad libitum to C3H/HeJ female mice inoculated with 1 × 106 C3HBA tumor cells, beginning the day of inoculation. Control same strain similarly were alone. did not affect incidence, but it decrease growth rate for first 19 days, after which rates independent treatment. A-treated survived significantly longer times than control mice.

Introduction: Medicinal cannabis is prescribed in Australia for patients with chronic refractory pain conditions. However, measures of safety and effectiveness different cannabinoids are lacking. We designed an observational study to capture effectiveness, adverse events (AEs), health-related quality life (HRQoL) oral medicinal formulation at Cannabis Access Clinics through the Observational (CACOS). Objectives:...

Gene expression variation is shaped by both genetic and environmental effects, yet these two factors are rarely considered together in the context of adaptive evolution. We studied influences on gene regulatory evolution ...Changes thought to play a major role While it known that highly sensitive environment, very few studies have determined influence effects ...

Abstract Despite different embryological origins, islet β-cells and neurons share the expression of many genes display multiple functional similarities. One shared gene product, vesicular monoamine transporter type 2 (VMAT2, also known as SLC18A2), is highly expressed in human relative to other cells endocrine exocrine pancreas. Recent reports suggest that dopamine an important paracrine and/or autocrine regulator insulin release by β-cells. Given role VMAT2 economy monoamines such dopamine,...
