After 7-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV7) introduction, non-vaccine serotypes such as 19A are increasing among Streptococcus pneumoniae. However, only limited data on S. pneumoniae available in Asian countries.Out of 1637 clinical pneumonia isolates collected during 2008 and 2009 from 10 countries (Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, India, Japan, the Philippines Vietnam), 91 serotype were identified. Capsular swelling reaction identified isolates....
Bacterial isolates with multiple plasmids harbouring different carbapenemase genes have emerged and been identified repeatedly, despite a general notion that confer fitness cost in bacterial host. In this study, we investigated the effects of on virulence bacteria.Different genes, blaNDM-1 blaOXA-232, were isolated from carbapenem-resistant K. pneumoniae strain. Each plasmid was conjugated into Escherichia coli strain DH5α, transconjugant both also obtained by transformation. Their vitro...
PDB-Ligand ( http://www.idrtech.com/PDB-Ligand/ ) is a three-dimensional structure database of small molecular ligands that are bound to larger biomolecules deposited in the Protein Data Bank (PDB). It also tool allows one browse, classify, superimpose and visualize these structures. As May 2004, there about 4870 types ligands, experimentally determined as complex with protein or DNA PDB. The proteins given ligand binds often homologous present same binding ligand. However, many instances...
The two plasmids extracted from Klebsiella pneumoniae sequence type 147 (ST147) isolates were analyzed. first isolate was obtained a patient transferred United Arab Emirates to South Korea. second Korean and suspected be transmitted the patient. Sequences of almost same, genetic structures, including blaNDM-5, these similar NDM-1-producing Escherichia coli ST131 found in Europe.
To determine and compare the complete nucleotide sequences of plasmids carrying blaCTX-M-15 from three different Klebsiella pneumoniae clones. IncFII-type pKP02022, pKP09085 pKP007 were extracted K. strains. These strains belong to sequence types (STs) ST15, ST48 ST23, respectively, isolated in Korea. Plasmids sequenced using 454 Genome Sequencer FLX system. The plasmids, pKP02022 (203577 bp), (213019 bp) (246 176 all exhibited a very similar structure, with pKPN3-like backbone resistance...
Molecular and virulence characteristics of CTX-M-producing non-extended-spectrum-β-lactamase (non-ESBL)-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates were compared. Lack shared between the two groups suggested that most K. in South Korea did not occur by transfer blaCTX-M into susceptible strains. Conjugation assays confirmed plasmid with blaCTX-M-15 gene confers as well antimicrobial resistance, suggesting a CTX-M-15-producing clone such ST11 may have selective advantage even without antibiotic pressure.
Plasmid pKP12226 was extracted and analyzed from a CTX-M-15-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae sequence type 11 (ST11) isolate collected in South Korea. The plasmid represents chimeric characteristics consisting of pIP1206-like backbone lysogenized phage P1-like sequences. It bears resistance region that includes genes to several antibiotics is different previously characterized plasmids Korea bearing blaCTX-M-15. may have resulted recombination between an Escherichia coli backbone,...
The outbreaks of the highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in 2016-2017 and 2017-2018, caused by novel reassortant clade 2.3.4.4 H5N6 viruses, resulted loss one billion birds South Korea. Here, we characterized viruses isolated from wild Korea December 2017 to August 2019 next-generation sequencing. results indicated that shared almost identical nucleotide sequences with HPAI 2016 This repeated detection evolutionarily same region for more than three years may suggest indigenization virus...
Integrin αv subunits are involved in tumour angiogenesis and progression various types of cancers. Clinical trials evaluating agents targeting integrin ongoing. expression has been reported several cancers association with or poor survival. However, no study addressed the prognostic influence on survival patients colorectal cancer (CRC).Immunohistochemical staining was performed 198 CRC samples to evaluate its significance.High observed 58.1% (115/189) adenocarcinoma samples, while only...
Avian influenza (AIV) outbreaks can induce fatal human pulmonary infections in addition to economic losses the poultry industry. In this study, we aimed develop a rapid and sensitive point-of-care AIV test using loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) technology. We designed three sets of reverse transcription LAMP (RT-LAMP) primers targeting matrix (M) hemagglutinin (HA) genes H5 H9 subtypes. RT-LAMP universal M gene was screen for presence assays H5-HA H9-HA were discriminate between...
Salmonella species are among the major pathogens that cause foodborne illness outbreaks. In this study, we aimed to develop a loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) assay for rapid and sensitive detection of species. We designed LAMP primers targeting hilA gene as universal marker A total seven strains 11 non-Salmonella pathogen from eight different genera were used in study. All showed positive signals with assay; however, there was no non-specific signal strains. The limit 100...
Of 11 mcr-1-harboring plasmids previously identified from livestock in Korea, we performed whole plasmid sequencing on 3 and determined the genetic structure surrounding mcr-1 for all plasmids. Transconjugation frequencies were measured competitive growth experiments to investigate fitness cost of each plasmid. Although they belong different clones, plasmids, pEC006 pEC019, highly similar first mcr-1-carrying Incl2-type plasmid, pHNSHP45. Another IncX4-type pEC111, had completely these but...
Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) viruses have caused severe respiratory disease and death in poultry human beings. Although most of the (AIVs) are low pathogenicity cause mild infections birds, some subtypes including hemagglutinin H5 H7 subtype HPAI. Therefore, sensitive accurate subtyping AIV is important to prepare prevent for spread Next-generation sequencing (NGS) can analyze full-length sequence information entire genome at once, so this technology becoming a more common...
