During the spring of 2013, a novel avian-origin influenza A (H7N9) virus emerged and spread among humans in China. Data were lacking on clinical characteristics infections caused by this virus.Using medical charts, we collected data 111 patients with laboratory-confirmed infection through May 10, 2013.Of studied, 76.6% admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU), 27.0% died. The median age was 61 years, 42.3% 65 years or older; 31.5% female. total 61.3% had at least one underlying condition....

Abstract Background The cytotoxicity of NK cells is largely dependent on IgG Fc receptor CD16a, which mediates antibody-dependent cell-mediated (ADCC). high-affinity and non-cleavable CD16 (hnCD16) developed demonstrated a multi-tumor killing potential. However, the hnCD16 activates single signal provides limited tumor suppression. How to exploit properties incorporate cell-specific activation domains promising development direction further improve anti-tumor activity cells. Methods To...

Use of antibiotics in outpatients with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is empirical, which may lead to overuse and selection pressure for resistance. Procalcitonin (PCT) levels predict the severity CAP be used guide antibiotic use hospitalized patients. This study evaluated value PCT measurements guiding low-risk CAP.This was a randomized intervention trial conducted between February 2005 December 2008 that included 172 consecutive patients suspected CAP, whom 156 completed study. The...

Abstract Sub-high temperature Daqu, a traditional solid fermenting agent used in Chinese strong-aroma Baijiu production, is abundant diverse microorganisms, including bacteria, yeasts, molds, and actinomycetes. Among these, yeasts are pivotal for ethanol production flavor formation. However, counting Daqu challenging due to interference from molds bacteria. Antibiotics employed inhibit bacterial growth, but there no practical way suppress without affecting the growth of yeasts. In this...

Cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) is recognized as a major contributor to progressive cognitive decline and cerebral hemorrhages in the elderly population. Currently, there global shortage of safe effective treatments for this condition. Bisdemethoxycurcumin (BDMC) has been demonstrated exhibit pharmacological effects with anti-Aβ toxicity properties. Thus, present study mainly focused on potential therapeutic BDMC CAA. The 30 male C57BL/6 mice were subjected chronic treatment five vascular...

Functional membranes with waterproof, breathable, and thermal regulation capabilities are increasingly sought after across various industries. However, developing such functional commonly involves complex multi-step preparation processes. Herein, we introduced perfluorodecyltriethoxysilane (FAS) into the poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP) solution for one-step electrospinning, successfully fabricating that combine these properties. The hydrophobicity of PVDF-HFP/FAS...

Evaluating the role of IL-6 and CD4+/CD8+ in predicting prognosis elderly patients with acute exacerbations chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD). This study retrospectively enrolled 413 who were hospitalized for AECOPD between January 2019 December 2021. Patients divided into event non-event groups based on whether they readmitted or died due to during 18 months follow-up. The associations adverse events assessed using Cox proportional hazards regression models, Kaplan-Meier...

BackgroundThe world's first reported patient infected with avian influenza H7N9 was treated at the Fifth People's Hospital of Shanghai. Shortly thereafter, several other cases emerged in local area. Here, we describe detailed epidemiological and clinical data 6 H7N9. Methods FindingsWe analyzed epidemiologic from clustered patients Minhang District Shanghai during a 2-week period. Of patients, 2 were single family. In addition, 3 had history contact poultry; however, all lived proximity food...

This randomized controlled trial aimed to evaluate whether the serum procalcitonin (PCT) level can be utilized guide use of antibiotics in treatment acute exacerbations asthma. A total 293 consecutive patients with suspected asthma attacks from February 2005 July 2010 participated this study. 225 completed Serum PCT levels, and other inflammatory biomarkers all were measured. In addition standard treatment, control group received according attending physicians' discretions, while treated...

Microorganisms possess a strong capacity for secondary metabolite synthesis, which is represented by tightly controlled networks. The absence of any enzymes leads to change in the original metabolic pathway, with decrease or even elimination synthetic product, not permissible under conditions normal life activities microorganisms. In order improve efficiency metabolism, organisms have evolved multifunctional (MFEs) that can catalyze two more kinds reactions via multiple active sites....
