We report an association between X-linked immunodeficiency with hyper-IgM (XHIM) and carcinomas affecting the liver, pancreas, biliary tree, associated neuroectodermal endocrine cells. The tumors were fatal in eight of nine cases most instances preceded by chronic cholangiopathy and/or cirrhosis. An additional group subjects XHIM had inflammation liver or bile ducts but no malignancy. Many patients infected cryptosporidia. CD40 is normally expressed on regenerating inflammed duct epithelium....

Inherited retinal diseases (IRDs) cause visual loss due to dysfunction or progressive degeneration of photoreceptors. These show marked phenotypic and genetic heterogeneity. The Israeli IRD consortium (IIRDC) was established in 2013 with the goal performing clinical mapping majority patients. To date, we recruited 2,420 families including 3,413 individuals IRDs. On basis our estimation, these patients represent approximately 40% best knowledge, this is, by far, largest reported cohort, one...

Vascular pathology is recognized as a principle insult in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Co-morbidities such structural brain abnormalities, cognitive, learning and memory deficits are also prevailing T2DM patients. We previously suggested that microvascular pathologies involving blood-brain barrier (BBB) breakdown results leakage of serum-derived components into the parenchyma, leading to neuronal dysfunction manifested psychiatric illnesses. The current postulate focuses on molecular...

We report a 12-yr-old boy without history of steroid use, in whom severe osteoporosis and multiple collapsed vertebrae were the presenting manifestations After treatment disease, he resumed normal growth progressed through puberty. Concomitantly, demonstrated substantial recovery vertebral bone mineral density structure. Possible pathophysiological mechanisms underlying subsequent improvement are discussed.
