Metformin was shown to sensitize multidrug resistant breast cancer cells; however, the mechanisms involved in this capacity need be clarified. We investigated oxidative stress and inflammatory-related pathways during induction of doxorubicin resistance MCF-7 MDA-MB-231 human cells (DOX-res group), evaluated metformin-induced cellular responses that resulted prevention (Met-DOX group). Microarray analysis demonstrated DOX-res changed expression genes (OS) TGF- β1 pathway. The group presented...
Abstract Reactive oxygen species oxidize proteins and modulate the proteasomal system in muscle‐wasting cancer cachexia. On day 5 (D5), 10 (D10), 14 (D14) after tumor implantation, skeletal muscle was evaluated. Carbonylated thiobarbituric acid reactive substances were measured. Chemiluminescence employed for lipid hydroperoxide estimation. Glutathione, superoxide dismutase, total radical antioxidant capacity The assessed by mRNA atrogin‐1 expression. Increased wasting, hydroperoxide,...
Arrabidaea chica leaf extract has been used by people as an anti-inflammatory and astringent agent well a remedy for intestinal colic, diarrhea, leucorrhea, anemia, leukemia. A. is known to be good producer of phenolics. Therefore, in the present study, we investigated its antioxidant activity. The phenolic composition leaves was studied liquid chromatography coupled diode array detection (LC-DAD) electrospray ionization-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-ESI-MS/MS), isoscutellarein,...
The participation of oxidative stress in the mechanism metformin action breast cancer remains unclear. We investigated effects clinical (6 and 30 μM) experimental concentrations (1000 5000 MCF-7 MDA-MB-231 cells, verifying cytotoxicity, stress, DNA damage, intracellular pathways related to cell growth survival after 24 h drug exposure. Clinical decreased metabolic activity cells MTT assay, which showed increased although death impairment proliferative capacity were observed only at higher...
Citral is a natural compound that has shown cytotoxic and antiproliferative effects on breast hematopoietic cancer cells; however, there are few studies melanoma cells. Oxidative stress known to be involved in all stages of development able modulate intracellular pathways related cellular proliferation death. In this study, we hypothesize citral exerts its effect cells by the modulation oxidative status and/or signaling. To test hypothesis, investigated B16F10 murine evaluating stress, DNA...
In this paper, we investigated the oxidative profile of breast tumors in comparison with their normal adjacent tissue. Our study indicates that present enhanced oxidative/nitrosative stress, concomitant augmented antioxidant capacity when compared to breast. These data indicate cancers may be responsible for induction a prooxidant environment mammary gland, association TNF‐ α and nitric oxide.
Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is the most prevalent cancer worldwide, increasing cost of healthcare services and with a high rate morbidity. Its etiology linked to chronic ultraviolet (UV) exposure that leads malignant transformation keratinocytes. Invasive growth metastasis are severe consequences this process. Therapy-resistant highly aggressive SCC frequently fatal, exemplifying need for novel treatment strategies. Cold physical plasma partially ionized gas, expelling...
Abstract Strategies to improve activity and selectivity are major goals in oncological drug development. Medical gas plasma therapy has been subject intense research dermatooncology recently. Based on partial ionization, this approach is exceptional generating a variety of reactive oxygen species simultaneously that can be applied locally at the tumor side. It hypothesized combined treatment potentiate responses melanoma. Using jet approved as medical device Europe, systematic screening 46...
