Notwithstanding the advances in tumor research, diagnosis, and treatment, breast cancer is still a challenge worldwide. This global burden of disease has been associated with population aging persistence cancer-related behaviors. The number women diagnosed estimated as increasing, especially middle-income countries such Brazil. Estimates from Instituto Nacional de Câncer (INCA) point to major malignant neoplasia Brazilian main cause death country. fact increased life expectancy,...

Leukotrienes are important mediators of inflammatory responses. In this study, we investigated the effect absence 5-lipoxygenase (5-LO)-derived leukotrienes on levels cytokines, nitric oxide (NO) and iNOS expression in cardiac tissue mice infected with Trypanosoma cruzi, agent Chagas' disease. NO is a key mediator parasite killing experimentally T. previous studies have suggested that leukotrienes, such as LTB(4), induces synthesis cruzi-infected macrophages plays relevant role NO-dependent...

In this paper, we investigated the oxidative profile of breast tumors in comparison with their normal adjacent tissue. Our study indicates that present enhanced oxidative/nitrosative stress, concomitant augmented antioxidant capacity when compared to breast. These data indicate cancers may be responsible for induction a prooxidant environment mammary gland, association TNF‐ α and nitric oxide.

About 20 % of breast cancer patients over-express the human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 (HER2), which is associated with enhanced tumor malignancy. The influence HER2 overexpression on oxidant/antioxidant parameters in humans remains unknown; therefore, we investigated oxidative profile women according to their status. Fifty-two controls and 52 (BC) were enrolled. BC subdivided into HER−, negative for overexpression, HER+, positive overexpression. Oxidative stress profilling was...

Sepsis survivors suffer from additional morbidities, including higher risk of readmissions, nervous system disturbances and cognitive dysfunction, increased mortality, even several years after the initial episode sepsis. In many ways, phenotype sepsis resembles associated with accelerated aging. Since telomere shortening is a hallmark aging, we investigated whether also leads to shortening. Male balb/c mice were divided into two groups: control group received 100 µl normal saline...

Breast cancer is a prevalent neoplastic disease among women worldwide which treatments still present several side effects and resistance. Considering that cells derangements in their energetic homeostasis, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor- gamma coactivator 1 (PGC-1) crucial for cellular metabolism redox signaling, the main objective of this study was to investigate whether there relationship between PGC-1 expression, proliferation breast mechanisms involved. We initially assessed...
