Hypoxia is an important factor that elicits numerous physiological and pathological responses. One of the major gene expression programs triggered by hypoxia mediated through hypoxia-responsive transcription hypoxia-inducible 1 (HIF-1). Here, we report identification cloning a novel HIF-1-responsive gene, designated RTP801. Its strong up-regulation was detected both in vitro vivo animal model ischemic stroke. When induced from tetracycline-repressible promoter, RTP801 protected MCF7 PC12...

Summary

Background
Antiretroviral therapy (ART) is crucial for controlling HIV-1 infection through wide-scale treatment as prevention and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). Potent tenofovir disoproxil fumarate-containing regimens are increasingly used to treat prevent HIV, although few data exist frequency risk factors of acquired drug resistance in regions hardest hit by the HIV pandemic. We aimed do a global assessment after virological failure with first-line...

Background. Numerous studies have shown that baseline drug resistance patterns may influence the outcome of antiretroviral therapy. Therefore, guidelines recommend testing to guide choice initial regimen. In addition optimizing individual patient management, these data enable transmitted (TDR) be surveyed for public health purposes. The SPREAD program systematically collects gain insight into TDR occurring in Europe since 2001.
"Ampicillin rash," a phenomenon unique to patients with Epstein-Barr virus acute infectious mononucleosis (AIM) treated ampicillin, was first reported in the 1960s. The incidence estimated as being between 80% and 100%, figures have not been reviewed since those accounts. We sought establish current of rash associated antibiotic treatment among children AIM.A retrospective study all hospitalized diagnosed having AIM based upon positive serology 2 pediatric tertiary medical centers Israel.Of...
Genomic sequencing provides critical information to track the evolution and spread of SARS-CoV-2, optimize molecular tests, treatments vaccines, guide public health responses. To investigate spatiotemporal heterogeneity in global SARS-CoV-2 genomic surveillance, we estimated impact intensity turnaround times (TAT) on variant detection 167 countries. Most countries submit genomes >21 days after sample collection, 77% low middle income sequenced <0.5% their cases. We found that at least 0.5%...
Abstract One of the key questions regarding COVID19 vaccines is whether they can reduce viral shedding. To date, Israel vaccinated substantial parts adult population, which enables extracting real world signals. The vaccination rollout started on Dec 20th 2020, utilized mainly BNT162b2 vaccine, and focused individuals who are 60 years or older. By now, more than 75% this age group have been at least 14 days after first dose, compared to 25% between ages 40-60 old. Here, we traced Ct value...
A nosocomial outbreak of SARS-CoV-2 Delta variant infected 42 patients, staff and family members; 39 were fully vaccinated. The attack rate was 10.6% (16/151) among exposed reached 23.7% (23/97) patients in a highly vaccinated population, 16-26 weeks after vaccination (median: 25 weeks). All cases linked traced to one patient. Several transmissions occurred between individuals wearing face masks. Fourteen 23 became severely sick or died, raising question about possible waning immunity.
This study presents an analysis of the epidemiological trends parvovirus B19 (B19V) in Israel from 2010 to 2023, with particular emphasis on outbreak 2023. The utilized molecular diagnostic data individual patients obtained at Central Virology Laboratory. Between and 2022, 8.5% PCR-tested samples were positive for B19V, whereas this percentage surged 31% samples. Throughout period, annual cycles consistently peaked early spring/summer, most recent prominent occurring 2016. Predominantly,...
Integrase strand transfer inhibitors (INSTIs) are expected to be widely adopted globally, requiring surveillance of resistance emergence and transmission. We therefore sought develop a standardized list INSTI-resistance mutations suitable for the transmitted INSTI resistance. To characterize suitability HIV-1 drug (TDR) surveillance, we classified them according their presence on published expert lists, conservation in INSTI-naive persons, frequency INSTI-treated persons contribution reduced...
