Abstract Mycobacterium tuberculosis and leprae have remained, for many years, the primary species of genus clinical microbiological interest. The other members genus, referred to as nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM), long been underinvestigated. In last decades, however, number reports linking various NTM with human diseases has steadily increased treatment difficulties emerged. Despite availability whole genome sequencing technologies, limited effort devoted genetic characterization...

Variant liver oestrogen receptor transcripts in hepatocellular carcinoma are associated with aggressive clinical course and unresponsiveness to tamoxifen. To evaluate the impact on survival tumour growth of megestrol (progestin drug acting at post-receptorial level) we enrolled 45 patients HCC characterized by variant receptors a prospective, randomized study vs. placebo. Presence was determined RT/PCR. 24 were no treatment 21 therapy 160 mg day–1. Results analysed Kaplan-Meier Cox methods....

The identification and typing of bacteria are very expensive time-consuming due to their growth times, the expertise needed. MALDI-TOF MS represents a fast technique, reproducible with molecular approaches. This technique is still poorly applied in Legionella surveillance estimation occurring only at genus level. aim this study was compare three sample preparation methods: direct smear (DS), extended (EDS), full extraction (E), using MALDI Biotyper, developing an in-house library. Moreover,...

Carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB) infection outbreaks are difficult to control and sometimes require cohorting of CRAB-positive patients or temporary ward closure for environmental cleaning. We aimed at controlling the deadly 2018 CRAB outbreak in a 12 bed- intensive care unit (ICU) including 9 beds 220 m2 open space. implemented new multimodal approach without closure, temporarily limiting admissions.A five-component bundle was introduced reinforcement hand hygiene sample...
