Expression of T cell receptor (TCR) V α genes in tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) within intraocular melanoma was studied. Primers for 18 different human TCR families were used to analyze -C gene rearrangements TIL these melanomas obtained at surgery. A limited number expressed and rearranged tumors, TILs expressing 7 found seven eight uveal melanomas. usage is also restricted experimental autoimmune disease, cells organs like skin other epithelial tissues, the brain patients with...

Considerable differences were observed in the experimental autoimmune disease elicited by retinal S antigen, depending on immunizing dose. An inoculum of 50 microgram produced a massive panophthalmitis containing many polymorphonuclear leukocytes, eosinophils, and mononuclear cells. A less severe endophthalmitis was seen animals receiving 25 antigen. Animals between 5 10 antigen developed characterized granulomatous uveitis. The inflammatory infiltrate consisted primarily epithelioid...

Cell-based therapies face challenges, including poor cell survival, immune rejection, and integration into pathologic tissue. We conducted an open-label phase 1/2a clinical trial to assess the safety preliminary efficacy of a subretinal implant consisting polarized monolayer allogeneic human embryonic stem cell-derived retinal pigmented epithelium (RPE) cells in subjects with geographic atrophy (GA) secondary dry age-related macular degeneration. Postmortem histology from one subject very...

Diagnostic criteria for tuberculous uveitis encompass exclusion of other known etiologies uveitis, suggestive clinical history and signs, supportive systemic investigations, positive response to empiric antituberculosis treatment evidence Mycobacterium tuberculosis or its DNA in ocular fluids/tissues. Recent advances diagnostic tools infection, including molecular biology techniques detection M. interferon-gamma release assays, have improved the specificity diagnosis ability ascertain...

Five patients with mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the conjunctiva were studied. The tumors located close to limbus in three patients, bulbar one, and lower cul-de-sac remaining patient. Histopathologically, they exhibited lobules tumor cells showing an admixture epidermoid mucus-secreting cells. Histochemical stains for mucin most useful arriving at a correct diagnosis. Follow-up information revealed that all five recurred rapidly, invading corneal stroma, intraocular structures, orbit....

A group Lewis rats underwent optic nerve axotomy with application N-4-(4-didecylaminostyryl)-N methylpyridinium iodide (4Di-10ASP) at site. On days 3, 14, 38 after axotomy, were killed, eyes enucleated, retinas stained OX42. Another such axotomized immunized S-antigen peptide killed on 7 through 12...

Localization of catalase In rat and bovine ocular tissues was investigated by an immunohistochemical method. Antisera to purified raised a rabbit. Purity determined gel electrophoresis specificity the antibody tested immunoblot. The method revealed presence predominantly in epithelial endothelial structures eye retina, except outer segments. Catalase found abundance those that are frequently exposed oxygen metabolites under physiologic conditions such pathologic states as intraocular...

Herein the authors investigated whether activation of Toll-like receptors (TLRs) in innate immune response causes retinal photoreceptor oxidative stress and mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) damage. On day 5 after injection complete Freund's adjuvant containing heat-killed Mycobacterium tuberculosis (CFA), retinas were submitted to polymerase chain reaction (PCR) array focused on TLR signaling, or apoptosis, pathway. CFA-mediated TLR4 activation, stress, mtDNA damage determined B10.RIII knockout (KO)...

Mycobacterium tuberculosis is an important cause of posterior uveitis in tuberculosis-endemic regions. Clinical and histopathologic evidence suggests that retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) can harbor M tuberculosis. However, the mechanism phagocytosis its growth RPE not clear. To investigate phagocytosis, replication, cytopathic effects cells compared with macrophages.Human fetal monocytic leukemia macrophage (THP-1) cell lines were cultured, THP-1 exposed to avirulent H37Ra.
