Peripheral glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and neurofilament light chain (NfL) are sensitive markers of neuroinflammation neuronal damage. Previous studies with highly selected participants have shown that peripheral GFAP NfL levels elevated in the pre-clinical phase Alzheimer's disease (AD) dementia. However, predictive value for dementia requires more evidence from population-based cohorts.

Purpose Cancer and Leukemia Group B conducted a randomized phase II trial to investigate two novel chemotherapy regimens in combination with concurrent thoracic radiation therapy (TRT). Patients Methods unresectable stage III non–small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) were randomly assigned carboplatin (area under the curve, 5) pemetrexed (500 mg/m 2 ) every 21 days for four cycles TRT (70 Gy; arm A) or same treatment cetuximab administered only (arm B). both arms received up of as consolidation...

Purpose To evaluate 74 Gy thoracic radiation therapy (TRT) with induction and concurrent chemotherapy in stage IIIA/B non–small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Patients Methods NSCLC were randomly assigned to either carboplatin (area under the curve [AUC], 6; days 1 22) paclitaxel (225 mg/m 2 ; 22; arm A) or (AUC, 5; gemcitabine (1,000 1, 8, 22, 29; B). On day 43, A received weekly 2) (45 ) while B biweekly (35 both delivered concurrently of TRT utilizing three-dimensional treatment planning. The...

Purpose: We combined finite element (FE) analysis and dynamic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to estimate optic nerve head (ONH) strains during horizontal eye movements, identified factors influencing such strains. also compared ONH (prelamina, lamina cribrosa, retrolamina strains) induced by movements those IOP. Methods: The ocular globes orbits of a healthy subject were visualized (up 13°), using MRI. A baseline FE model one was reconstructed in the primary gaze position, including...

Tumor neovascularization is a highly complex process including multiple steps. Understanding this process, especially the initial stage, has been limited by difficulties of real-time visualizing embedded in tumor tissues living animal models. In present study, we have established xenograft model zebrafish implanting mammalian cells into perivitelline space 48 hours old Tg(Flk1:EGFP) transgenic embryos. With model, dynamically visualized neovascularization, with unprecedented high-resolution,...

Abstract Glioblastoma (GBM) is an incurable and highly heterogeneous brain tumor, originating from human neural stem/progenitor cells (hNSCs/hNPCs) years ahead of diagnosis. Despite extensive efforts to characterize hNSCs end-stage GBM at bulk single-cell levels, the de novo gliomagenic path largely unknown due technical difficulties in early-stage sampling preclinical modeling. Here, we established two penetrant hNSC-derived malignant glioma models, which resemble histopathology...

Abstract Background Observational studies have suggested an association between multiple sclerosis (MS) and cortical structure, but the results been inconsistent. Objective We used two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) to assess causal relationship MS structure. Methods data as exposure trait, including 14,498 cases 24,091 controls, were obtained from International Multiple Sclerosis Genetics Consortium. Genome-wide study (GWAS) for surface area (SAw/nw) thickness (THw/nw) in 51,665...

The optimal strategy to achieve palliation of malignant pleural effusions (MPEs) is unknown. This multi-institutional, prospective, randomized trial compares 2 established methods for controlling symptomatic unilateral MPEs. Patients with MPEs were either daily tunneled catheter drainage (TCD) or bedside talc pleurodesis (TP). patterned after a previous that showed TP was equivalent thoracoscopic (CALGB 9334). primary end point the current study combined success: consistent/reliable...

Purpose Concurrent chemoradiotherapy is standard treatment for patients with stage III non-small-cell lung cancer. Elderly may experience increased rates of adverse events (AEs) or less benefit from concurrent chemoradiotherapy. Abstract Background Integrin-mediated platelet-tumor cell contacting plays an important role in promoting epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) transformation of tumor cells and cancer metastasis, but whether it occurs breast is not completely clear. Objective The purpose this study was to investigate the integrin α2β1 platelet human line MCF-7 its effect on EMT invasion cells. Methods Human platelets were activated by thrombin, separated into pellets releasates before co-incubation with...

Purpose The optimal treatment for medically inoperable stage I non–small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has not been defined. Proteoglycan degradation contributing to the pathogenesis of intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration is induced by inflammatory cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor‑α (TNF‑α) and interleukin‑1β (IL‑1β). Cell autophagy exists in degenerative diseases, including osteoarthritis degeneration. However, TNF‑α IL‑1β corresponding molecular mechanism appear be cell‑type dependent. The effect regulated IVDs remains unclear. Additionally, impact on catabolic conditions also elusive. In present...

Human amnion-derived mesenchymal stem cells (AD-MSCs) have been reported as a promising effective treatment to repair tissue. Trophoblast dysfunction during pregnancy is significantly involved in the pathogenesis of preeclampsia (PE). To understand how AD-MSCs regulated trophoblast function, we treated trophoblasts with AD-MSC-derived exosomes under hypoxic conditions. The markedly enhanced proliferation and autophagy. Furthermore, significant decrease EZH2 levels inactivation mTOR signaling...
