Erratic bit phenomena have been reported in advanced flash memories, and attributed to trapping/detrapping effects that modify the threshold voltage. This paper describes for first time observance of erratic behavior SRAM Vmin, defined as minimum voltage at which array is functional. Random telegraph signal (RTS) noise soft breakdown gate leakage shown be cause. The Vmin phenomenon can eliminated 90 nm SRAMs by process optimization. However, gets worse with smaller cell sizes represents...

Nitric oxide (NO) is released into the air by NO-producing organisms; however, it unclear if animals utilize NO as a sensory cue. We show that C. elegans avoids Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA14) in part detecting PA14-produced NO. PA14 mutants deficient for production fail to elicit avoidance and donors repel worms. are mediated chemosensory neuron (ASJ) these responses require receptor guanylate cyclases cyclic nucleotide gated ion channels. ASJ exhibits calcium increases at both onset removal...

A 32/spl times/32 array of photosensors with pulse frequency outputs uses standard 2 /spl mu/m CMOS technology. The use pulse-frequency encoding to achieve a linear dynamic range 10/sup 6/ in optical energy. Power dissipation the photosensor is proportional outputs, and under typical illumination bias conditions, entire dissipates <100 nW. A/D conversion incident energy directly by counting number pulses fixed time period or measuring interval between successive pulses. Each element...

Internal state alters sensory behaviors to optimize survival strategies. The neuronal mechanisms underlying hunger-dependent behavioral plasticity are not fully characterized. Here we show that feeding C. elegans thermotaxis behavior by engaging a modulatory circuit whose activity gates the output of core network. Feeding does alter comprised AFD thermosensory and AIY interneurons. Instead, prolonged food deprivation potentiates temperature responses in AWC neurons, which inhibit...

Epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) mediated by fluid shear stress (FSS) in the tumor microenvironment plays an important role driving metastasis of malignant tumor. As a mechanotransducer, Yes‐associated protein (YAP) is known to translocate into nucleus initiate transcription genes involved cell proliferation upon extracellular biophysical stimuli. Here, we showed that FSS facilitated cytoskeleton rearrangement hepatocellular carcinoma cells, which led release YAP from its binding...

Neural network architecture determines its functional output. However, the detailed mechanisms are not well characterized. In this study, we focused on neural architectures of male and hermaphrodite C. elegans association with sexually dimorphic behaviors. We applied graph theory computational neuroscience methods to systematically discern features these two networks. Our findings revealed that a small percentage sexual-specific neurons exerted dominance throughout entire net-work,...

Abstract Modulation of gap junction-mediated electrical synapses is a common form neural plasticity. However, the behavioral consequence modulation and underlying molecular cellular mechanisms are not understood. Here, using C. elegans circuit interneurons that connected by junctions, we show junctions facilitates olfactory learning. Learning experience weakens induces repulsive sensory response to training odorants, which together decouple responses odorants generate learned behavior. The...

Olfactory integration is important for survival in a natural habitat. However, how the nervous system processes signals of two odorants present simultaneously to generate coherent behavioral response poorly understood. Here, we characterize circuit basis form olfactory Caenorhabditis elegans . We find that presence repulsive odorant, 2-nonanone, threat strongly blocks attraction other odorants, such as isoamyl alcohol (IAA) or benzaldehyde, signal food. Using forward genetic screen, found...

To elucidate the effects of endothelium-derived relaxing factor (EDRF) released from vascular endothelial cells (ECs) on handling intracellular calcium ion (Ca2+i) in ECs themselves and smooth muscle (VSMCs), we measured Ca2+i by two-dimensional digital image analysis fura-2-loaded VSMCs tissue culture. In isoculture one cell type, adenosine triphosphate (ATP, 1 microM) transiently increased both VSMCs. High-K+ depolarization or angiotensin II also elevated VSMCs, whereas neither stimulants...

PMOS transistor degradation due to negative bias temperature instability (NBTI) has been shown be a major reliability mechanism. The effect of NBTI on the minimum operating voltage cache cell (Vmin) recently demonstrated, and modeling ultra small gate area devices is vital for accurate Vmin. Recent data simulation indicated that random fluctuations in device are present under stress. This paper examines source these NBTI.
