We have developed a size series of unusually small, water-soluble (InAs)ZnSe (core)shell quantum dots (QDs) that emit in the near-infrared and exhibit new behavior vivo, including multiple sequential lymph node mapping extravasation from vasculature. The biological utility these fluorescent probes resulted our intentional choice to match semiconductor material ligand with desired final hydrodynamic diameter emission wavelength.
Background Myocardial reperfusion is believed to be associated with free radical injury. However, indexes of oxidative stress in vivo have been limited by their poor specificity and sensitivity. Isoprostanes are stable products arachidonic acid formed a nonenzymatic, radical–catalyzed manner. We developed sensitive specific assay for one these compounds, 8-epi prostaglandin (PG) F 2α . Methods Results To address its utility as an index during coronary reperfusion, we measured urinary levels...
Crystal-to-crystal transformation from a 3D interpenetrated-type MOF {[Cu(BF4)2(bpy)(H2O)2] (bpy)} (1) to 2D square-grid-type [Cu(BF4)2(bpy)2] (2) (bpy = 4,4'-bipyridine) was observed. It derived dehydration and confirmed by in situ FT-IR, TG, elemental analysis. Moreover, we elucidate the novel expansion/shrinkage dynamic modulation of 2 triggered clathrate formation with gas molecules.
Quantum dots with a core/shell/shell structure consisting of an alloyed core InAsxP1-x, intermediate shell InP, and outer ZnSe were developed. The InAsxP1-x has graded internal composition increasing arsenic content from the center to edge dots. This compositional gradient results two apparent effects: (1) faster reaction kinetics phosphorus precursor compared precursor, (2) post-growth arsenic−phosphorus exchange that increases content. cores have zinc blend for all compositions show...
Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) transplantation has been shown to decrease fibrosis in the heart; however, whether MSC directly influence function of cardiac fibroblasts (CFB) remains unknown. MSC‐conditioned medium significantly attenuated proliferation CFB compared with CFB‐conditioned medium. upregulated antiproliferation‐related genes such as elastin, myocardin and DNA‐damage inducible transcript 3, whereas proliferation‐related alpha‐2‐macrogrobulin v‐kit Hardy–Zuckerman 4 feline sarcoma...
Intraoperative near-infrared (NIR) fluorescence imaging provides the surgeon with real-time image guidance during cancer and other surgeries. We have previously reported use of NIR fluorescent quantum dots (QDs) for sentinel lymph node (SLN) mapping. However, because concerns over potential toxicity, organic alternatives to QDs will be required initial clinical studies. describe a family 800 nm heptamethine indocyanine-based contrast agents SLN mapping spanning spectrum from 775 Da small...
Abstract MSC have self-renewal and multilineage differentiation potential, including into endothelial cells vascular smooth muscle cells. Although bone marrow-derived mononuclear (MNC) been applied for therapeutic angiogenesis in ischemic tissue, little information is available regarding comparison of the molecular foundation between MNC their subpopulation, as well response to conditions. Thus, we investigated gene expression profiles rat marrow under normoxia hypoxia using a microarray...
Recent studies indicate that sphingolipids, sphingomyelin (SM) and ceramide (Cer) are associated with the development of metabolic syndrome. However, detailed profiles serum sphingolipids in pathogenesis this syndrome lacking. Here we have investigated relationship between molecular species clinical features syndrome, such as obesity, insulin resistance, fatty liver disease atherogenic dyslipidemia. We collected from obese (body mass index, BMI⩾35, n=12) control (BMI=20-22, n=11) volunteers...
There are no approved drug treatments for liver fibrosis and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), an advanced stage of which has rapidly become a major cause cirrhosis. Therefore, development anti-inflammatory antifibrotic therapies is desired. Mesenchymal stem cell- (MSC-) based therapy, been extensively investigated in regenerative medicine various organs, can reportedly achieve therapeutic effect NASH via paracrine action. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) encompass variety released by cells...
Background Pulmonary cachexia is common in advanced chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), culminating exercise intolerance and a poor prognosis. Ghrelin novel growth hormone (GH)-releasing peptide with GH-independent effects. The efficacy safety of adding ghrelin to rehabilitation (PR) cachectic COPD patients were investigated. Methodology/Principal Findings In multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, 33 randomly assigned PR intravenous (2 µg/kg) or placebo...
Although mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) can be obtained from the fetal membrane (FM), little information is available regarding biological differences in MSCs derived different layers of FM or their therapeutic potential. Isolated both amnion and chorion showed similar morphological appearance, multipotency, cell-surface antigen expression. Conditioned media amnion- chorion-derived inhibited cell death caused by serum starvation hypoxia endothelial cardiomyocytes. Amnion secreted significant...
Accumulating evidence suggests that Japanese herbal medicines, called Kampo, have beneficial effects on cancer chemotherapy-induced side effects. Rikkunshito ameliorates cisplatin-induced anorexia through an antagonistic effect the 5-HT receptors and by increasing serum ghrelin levels. Hangeshashinto improves irinotecan-induced diarrhea mucositis inhibiting activity of β-glucuronidase as well synthesis prostaglandin E2. Goshajinkigan prevents oxaliplatin-induced neurotoxicity, possibly...

The bulk phantom material is composed of gelatin, intralipid, hemoglobin, indocyanine green (ICG). Absorbance, scatter, background fluorescence, texture can be tuned as desired. NIR fluorescent inclusions are comprised ICG-labeled polystyrene divinylbenzene beads Pam78-labeled hydroxyapatite crystals. former mimic tumor masses controllable size...
Background: Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) are multipotent and reside in bone marrow (BM), adipose tissue many other tissues. However, the molecular foundations underlying differences proliferation, differentiation potential paracrine effects between tissue-derived MSC (ASC) BM-derived (BM-MSC) not well-known. Therefore, we investigated gene secretory protein expressions of 2 types MSC. Methods Results: ASC BM-MSC were obtained from subcutaneous BM adult Lewis rats. proliferated as rapidly...
Abstract Bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSC) have been demonstrated to be an attractive therapeutic cell source for tissue regeneration and repair. However, it remains unknown whether or not allogeneic transplantation of (MSC) derived from fetal membranes (FM), which are generally discarded as medical waste after delivery, has potential. FM-MSC were obtained Lewis rats had surface antigen expression multipotent potential partly similar those BM-MSC. Compared with BM-MSC,...
