Contemporary meta-analyses have generally demonstrated a positive effect of sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) supplementation on exercise performance. However, despite these claims, there is limited data contrasting individualized and standardized timing NaHCO3 ingestion prior to further enhance performance outcomes. Purpose: To determine whether impacts 2,000-m rowing time-trial (TT) in elite-level rowers (Senior National team including Olympic/World Championships level) adhering their own...
Nerve sparing during robotic radical prostatectomy (RRP) considerably improves post-operative potency and urinary continence as long it does not compromise oncological outcome. Excision of the neurovascular bundle (NVB) is often performed in patients with intermediate high risk prostate cancer to reduce positive surgical margin raising incontinence impotence. We present first UK series outcomes such who underwent an intra-operative frozen section (IOFS) analysis RRP allowing nerve sparing.We...
To determine the prevalence of urological pathology in a retrospective and prospective study patients with microscopic haematuria attending clinic.Between January 1998 May 2001, 781 attended clinic; these, 368 (47%; median age 60 years, range 18-90) had history haematuria, as detected by urine dipstick testing. These were investigated culture cytology, renal ultrasonography, intravenous urography (IVU), flexible cystoscopy, urea electrolyte analysis, assay prostate specific antigen (PSA)...
This study determined if supplementation with pantothenic acid (PA) for 16 weeks could increase skeletal muscle coenzyme A (CoASH) content and exercise performance. Trained male cyclists (n = 14) were matched into control or PA (6 g·day-1) groups. At 0, 4, 8, weeks, subjects performed an incremental time to exhaustion cycle biopsies taken prior following exercise. Prolonged did not change CoASH acetyl-CoA contents Novelty: Supplementation had no effect on performance in trained cyclists.
206 Background: MRI has been shown useful for identifying targets after negative biopsy. Abstract Objectives To test the feasibility of a randomised controlled trial (RCT) aspirin and/or vitamin D3 in active surveillance (AS) low/favourable intermediate risk prostate cancer (PCa) patients with Prolaris® testing. Patients and Methods Newly‐diagnosed PCa (PSA ≤ 15 ng/ml, International Society Urological Pathology (ISUP) Grade Group ≤2, maximum biopsy core length <10 mm, clinical stage ≤cT2c) were recruited into multi‐centre randomised, double‐blind, placebo‐controlled study...
Male catheterisation is an essential skill for healthcare professionals. Difficulty in using a standard technique common. Failure may necessitate suprapubic or cystoscopic placement of catheter. A number techniques difficult urethral have been described, including the passage narrow, reinforced angled tipped catheter, blind guide-wire into bladder use introducer.1 These techniques, however, carry significant risk trauma and false creation.2 We describe alternative, simple safe catheterisation.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine if university students understood the differences between first responders and emergency management as awareness informs individual’s decision-making processes.Design: Convenience sampling, mixed methods data collection with descriptive analysis means testing.Setting: US, Southeastern Conference University, during summer semester.Participants: 500 convenience sampled student volunteers.Intervention: sampled, mixed-mode survey administered...
5073 Background: Active surveillance is increasingly used for insignificant prostate cancer (PCa). In order to identify suitable patients, risk scores have been developed which use pre-operative factors. We evaluated the accuracy of 9 separate tools patients harbouring PCa in 2613 who underwent radical prostatectomy Gleason 3+3 PCa. and validated a novel score correctly unscreened patient cohorts using non-dichotomised clinical predictors. Methods: 2799 would candidates AS (Gleason 6 only)...
