The reliability of procalcitonin (PCT) and interleukin‐6 (IL‐6) was determined compared with that C‐reactive protein (CRP) in the diagnosis early‐onset sepsis neonate within first 12 h life. ROC analysis values 41 neonates blood‐cultures‐positive clinical those 27 uninfected revealed sensitivities for PCT (≥6ng/mL), IL‐6 (≥60pg/mL), CRP (≥2.5 mg/L) 77%, 54%, 69% specificities 91%, 100% 96%, respectively. Sensitivity at ≥8 mg/L 49% ( p = 0.012 to PCT). Conclusion : most sensitive diagnostic parameter

We evaluated the causes for neonatal thrombocytopenia (NT), duration of NT, and indications platelet transfusions (PT) by means a retrospective cohort study over 23-year period. Neonates with NT were identified via ICD-10 code D69.6. Of 371 neonates (1.8/1000 live births) majority (312; 84.1%) had early onset thrombocytopenia, 282 (76%) preterm born. The most frequent late sepsis asphyxia. mean was 10.2 days negatively correlated (KK = - 0.35) number PT. PT given to 78 (21%) neonates, 38...

Preterm infants with very low birthweight are at serious risk for necrotizing enterocolitis. To functionally analyse the principles of three successful preventive NEC regimens, we characterize fecal samples 55 (<1500 g, n = 383, female 22) longitudinally (two weeks) respect to gut microbiome profiles (bacteria, archaea, fungi, viruses; targeted 16S rRNA gene sequencing and shotgun metagenomics), microbial function, virulence factors, antibiotic resistances metabolic profiles, including human...

Respiratory syncytial virus is a major cause of lower respiratory tract infection morbidity and mortality in children globally, causing 3·2–3·6 million hospitalisations more than 100 000 deaths annually younger 5 years, 99% which occur low-income middle-income countries (LMICs).1Li Y Wang X Blau DM et al.Global, regional, national disease burden estimates acute infections due to years 2019: systematic analysis.Lancet. 2022; 399: 2047-2064Summary Full Text PDF PubMed Scopus (187) Google...

Our aim was to analyze C-reactive protein (CRP) values in term and preterm infants correlate non-infection-associated increases with various neonatal disorders.Retrospective cohort study that included all newborns hospitalized at a tertiary care center between 2004 2007 documented CRP the first 3 days of life. Analysis differences cases sepsis negative newborns. For diagnosis blood culture proven (19 14 cases, respectively) 353 179 newborns, cut-off 8 mg/L had sensitivities 53% 86%...

To assess the cost-effectiveness of palivizumab, a monoclonal antibody against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), in infants at high risk for severe RSV lower tract infection, such as premature infants, with bronchopulmonary dysplasia, and those congenital heart disease, based on long-term epidemiologic data from Austria.A decision-tree model was used, analysis lifetime follow-up investigating palivizumab versus no infection prevention. The primary perspective study that healthcare system,...

To perform a systematic review assessing accuracy and completeness of diagnostic studies procalcitonin (PCT) for early-onset neonatal sepsis (EONS) using the Standards Reporting Diagnostic Accuracy (STARD) initiative. EONS, diagnosed during first 3 days life, remains common serious problem. Increased PCT is potentially useful marker but reports in literature are contradictory. There several possible explanations divergent results including quality reporting clinical usefulness ruling or out...

Neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) is usually treated with opiate derivatives and supported nonpharmacological treatment. This prospective, randomized, controlled, blinded, single-center study was carried out between March 2009 November 2014. Newborn infants diagnosed NAS after maternal opioid substitution therapy were eligible for inclusion. Infants randomly allocated to the acupuncture group (combining laser pharmacological of morphine phenobarbital) or control (pharmacological alone)....
