Nonophthalmologist physicians do not confidently perform direct ophthalmoscopy. The use of artificial intelligence to detect papilledema and other optic-disk abnormalities from fundus photographs has been well studied. We trained, validated, externally tested a deep-learning system classify optic disks as being normal or having 15,846 retrospectively collected ocular that had obtained with pharmacologic pupillary dilation various digital cameras in persons multiple ethnic populations. A BSTRACT Background and Objective: The COVID-19 disease caused by SARS-CoV-2 was declared as pandemic WHO soon after its emergence in 2019. This virus known to cause serious clinical symptoms severe illness. By using RT-PCR, which reports the cycle threshold value, is diagnosed, whereas for severity of disease, biomarker levels, like IL-6, CRP, D-dimer, serum ferritin procalcitonin, can be measured. We, thus, aimed explore any potential correlation value level with outcome COVID-19-positive...

Abstract Growing evidence suggests that glial cells may have a role as neural precursors in the adult central nervous system. Although it has been shown Müller exhibit progenitor characteristics postnatal chick and rat retinae, their progenitor-like developed human retina is unknown. We first reported of spontaneously immortalized cell line MIO-M1, but recently we derived similar lines from several eye donors. Since immortalization one main properties stem cells, investigated whether these...

Abstract Müller glia with stem cell characteristics have been identified in the adult human eye, and although there is no evidence that they regenerate retina vivo, can be induced to grow differentiate into retinal neurons vitro. We differentiated cells ganglion (RGC) precursors by stimulation fibroblast growth factor 2 together NOTCH inhibition using γ-secretase inhibitor N-[N-(3,5-difluorophenacetyl)-l-alanyl]-S-phenylglycine t-butyl ester (DAPT). Differentiation RGC was confirmed gene...

Abstract At present, there are severe limitations to the successful migration and integration of stem cells transplanted into degenerated retina restore visual function. This study investigated potential role chondroitin sulfate proteoglycans (CSPGs) microglia in human Müller glia with neural cell characteristics following subretinal injection Lister hooded (LH) Royal College Surgeons (RCS) rat retinae. Neonate LH showed minimal baseline microglial accumulation (CD68-positive cells) that...

Objective To evaluate the performance of a deep learning system (DLS) in classifying severity papilledema associated with increased intracranial pressure on standard retinal fundus photographs. Methods A DLS was trained to automatically classify 965 patients (2,103 mydriatic photographs), representing multiethnic cohort confirmed elevated pressure. Training performed 1,052 photographs mild/moderate (MP) and 1,051 severe (SP) classified by panel experts. The that 3 independent...

Much controversy has arisen on the nature and sources of stem cells in adult human retina. Whilst ciliary epithelium been thought to constitute a source neural cells, population Müller glia retina also shown exhibit neurogenic characteristics. This study aimed compare proliferative abilities between these two major cell populations. It examined whether differences exist pigmented non-pigmented (CE) from eye. On this basis, with characteristics CE were isolated respectively. Expression glial,...

Abstract Background Despite increasing demand, current protocols for human pluripotent stem cell (hPSC)-derived retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) remain time, labor, and cost intensive. Additionally, absence of robust methods selective RPE purification removal non-RPE impurities prevents upscaling clinical quality production. We aimed to address these challenges by developing a simplified hPSC-derived production system that yields high-quality monolayers within 90 days. Methods Human cells...
