Abstract microbeMASST, a taxonomically informed mass spectrometry (MS) search tool, tackles limited microbial metabolite annotation in untargeted metabolomics experiments. Leveraging curated database of >60,000 monocultures, users can known and unknown MS/MS spectra link them to their respective producers via fragmentation patterns. Identification microbe-derived metabolites relative without priori knowledge will vastly enhance the understanding microorganisms’ role ecology human health.

Antibiotic-resistant Gram-negative bacteria are an increasing threat to human health. Strategies restore antibiotic efficacy include targeting multidrug efflux pumps by competitive pump inhibitors. These could be derived from natural substrates of these systems. In this work, we aimed elucidate the clinically relevant Mex Pseudomonas aeruginosa untargeted metabolomic approach. We constructed a PA14 mutant, genetically deleted in major MexAB-OprM, MexCD-OprJ, MexXY-OprM, and MexEF-OprN...

Photosynthetic organisms such as plants, algae and some cyanobacteria synthesize tocochromanols, a group of compounds that encompasses tocopherols tocotrienols exhibits vitamin E activity in animals. While most biosynthetic genes have been identified plant genomes, regulatory controlling tocopherol accumulation are currently unknown. We isolated by forward genetics Arabidopsis enhanced (eve) mutants overaccumulate the classic plastochromanol-8, tocochromanol unknown this species. mapped eve1...

The Antarctic sponge Dendrilla antarctica is rich in defensive terpenoids with promising antimicrobial potential. Investigation of this demosponge has resulted the generation a small chemical library containing diterpenoid secondary metabolites bioactivity an infectious disease screening campaign focused on Leishmania donovani, Plasmodium falciparum, and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) biofilm. In total, eleven natural products were isolated, including three new compounds...
