Data obtained by the associated production of \ensuremath{\Lambda} hypernuclei through (${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\pi}}}^{+}$,${\mathit{K}}^{+}$) reaction are presented for a wide range mass numbers. The special features which make this useful pointed out. is shown to be an excellent probe single-particle states, as demonstrated excitation deeply bound states interpreted weak coupling neutron-hole core. binding energies and ground-state cross sections...
Evidence for the presence of alpha-particle clustering in $^{218}\mathrm{Ra}$ comes from a number observables: binding energy, ${S}_{2n}$, ${Q}_{\ensuremath{\alpha}}$, ${E}_{x}({J}^{\ensuremath{\pi}})$, ${{\ensuremath{\theta}}_{\ensuremath{\alpha}}}^{2}$, and ${F}_{\ensuremath{\alpha}}$. That this is signature new dipole collectivity suggested by Iachello Jackson follows observation simultaneous enhancement selected $E1$, $E2$, $E3$ deexcitation transition matrix elements; these $E1$ most...
A search for nuclear-bound states of the $\ensuremath{\eta}$ meson has been carried out. Targets lithium, carbon, oxygen, and aluminum were placed in a ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}$ beam at 800 MeV/c. predicted bound state $^{15}\mathrm{O}^{*}({E}_{x}\ensuremath{\approx}540 \mathrm{MeV})$ with width \ensuremath{\cong} 9 MeV was not observed. size ⅓ cross section would have seen this experiment confidence level $3\ensuremath{\sigma}(P>0.9987)$.
Energy recovery has been achieved in a multipass linear accelerator, demonstrating technology for more compact particle accelerators operating at higher currents and reduced energy consumption. delivered to the beam during first four passes through accelerating structure was recovered subsequent decelerating passes. High-energy efficiency by use of superconducting cavities permanent magnets. The fixed-field alternating-gradient optical system used return loop successfully transported...

A coherent spin resonance excited by an rf dipole was used to overcome depolarization due intrinsic resonances at the Alternating Gradient Synchrotron (AGS) Brookhaven National Laboratory. We found that our data are consistent with a full flip of polarized proton beam, without emittance growth, $G\ensuremath{\gamma}\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}12+{\ensuremath{\nu}}_{z}$ and $36\ensuremath{-}{\ensuremath{\nu}}_{z}$, adiabatically exciting vertical betatron oscillation...
The Brookhaven Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) has been providing collisions of polarized protons at a beam energy 100 GeV since 2001. Equipped with two full Siberian snakes in each ring, polarization is preserved during acceleration from injection to GeV. However, the intrinsic spin resonances beyond are about factor 2 stronger than those below making it important examine impact these strong on survival and tolerance for vertical orbit distortions. Polarized were first accelerated...
Errors in delivering a uniformly distributed radiation dose to biological and material samples exposed charged particle beams are significant problem for experimenters. In this paper, we discuss data collected on the uniform beam distributions produced NASA's Space Radiation Laboratory (NSRL) at Brookhaven National (BNL), using method that was conceived theoretically tested experimentally BNL. This [N. Tsoupas et al., Nucl. Sci. Eng. 126, 71 (1997)] of generating plane normal beam's...
Acceleration of polarized protons in the energy range 5 to 25 GeV is challenging. In a medium accelerator, depolarizing spin resonances are strong enough cause significant polarization loss but full Siberian snakes intolerably large orbit excursions and also not feasible since straight sections usually too short. Recently, two helical partial with double pitch design have been installed Brookhaven Alternating Gradient Synchrotron (AGS). With careful setup optics at injection along ramp, this...
The magnetic moments of the ${2}_{1}^{+}$ states in $^{186,188}\mathrm{Os}$ and $^{194,196}\mathrm{Pt}$ isotopes have been measured by transient field technique at ion recoil velocities $1.6\ensuremath{\lesssim}\frac{v}{{v}_{0}}\ensuremath{\lesssim}2.8$. was assumed to follow parametrization proposed Shu et al. for ions range $8<Z<62$. $g$ factors obtained osmium $g(^{186}\mathrm{Os})=0.262(15)$ $g(^{188}\mathrm{Os})=0.300(15)$ are excellent agreement with independent M\"ossbauer...
We describe a proposal to search for an intrinsic electric dipole moment (EDM) of the proton with sensitivity \targetsens, based on vertical rotation polarization stored beam. The New Physics reach is order $10^~3$TeV mass scale. Observation EDM provides best probe CP-violation in Higgs sector, at level that may be inaccessible electron-EDM experiments. improvement $\theta_{QCD}$, parameter crucial axion and dark matter physics, about three orders magnitude.
The magnetic moments of the ${2}_{1}^{+}$ states $^{120\ensuremath{-}130}\mathrm{Te}$ isotopes have been measured by thin-foil transient field technique. resulting are discussed in light predictions vibrational, quasiparticle, and interacting boson approximation models.NUCLEAR REACTIONS ($^{32}\mathrm{S}$, $^{32}\mathrm{S}$\ensuremath{'}) $^{120\ensuremath{-}130}\mathrm{Te}$(${2}_{1}^{+}$); ${E}_{S}\ensuremath{\sim}80$ MeV; enriched targets; $W(\ensuremath{\theta},B,\ensuremath{\infty})$...
Deuteron and gold beams have been accelerated to a collision energy of /spl radic/s = 200 GeV/u in the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), providing first asymmetric-species collisions this complex. Necessary changes for mode operation include new ramping software asymmetric crossing angle geometries. This paper reviews machine performance, problems encountered their solutions, accomplishments during 16 weeks ramp-up operations.
The four electron stripping stages leading to fully stripped gold ions in the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) are briefly described. third stripper, which removes 46 electrons from ${\mathrm{Au}}^{31+}$ heliumlike ${\mathrm{Au}}^{77+}$, offers greatest challenges terms of energy loss and induced spread. These problems described detail as well recent advances design performance this stripper. Measurements performed with several carbon aluminum strippers show general agreement a...
Two partial Siberian snakes were used to avoid all the spin imperfection and vertical intrinsic resonances in alternating gradient synchrotron (AGS) at Brookhaven National Laboratory. However, horizontal betatron motion can cause polarization loss resulting from nonvertical stable direction presence of two snakes. This type resonance, called a was observed systematically studied AGS. A simplified analytic model numerical simulation have been developed compare with experimental data....
In a medium energy proton synchrotron, strong enough partial Siberian snakes can be used to avoid both imperfection and vertical intrinsic depolarizing resonances. However, tilt the stable spin direction away from vertical, which generates resonances associated with horizontal tune. The relatively weak but numerous are main source of residual polarization losses. A pair tune jump quads have been in Brookhaven Alternating Gradient Synchrotron overcome these locations two chosen such that...
