The discovery by the ATLAS and CMS experiments of a new boson with mass around 125 GeV measured properties compatible those Standard-Model Higgs boson, coupled absence discoveries phenomena beyond Standard Model at TeV scale, has triggered interest in ideas for future factories. A circular e+e- collider hosted 80 to 100 km tunnel, TLEP, is among most attractive solutions proposed so far. It clean experimental environment, produces high luminosity top-quark, W Z studies, accommodates multiple...
This report summarizes the activities of SM and NLO Multileg Working Group Workshop "Physics at TeV Colliders", Les Houches, France 8-26 June, 2009.
The 2011 Les Houches workshop was the first to confront LHC data. In two years since previous there have been significant advances in both soft and hard QCD, particularly areas of multi-leg NLO calculations, inclusion those calculations into parton shower Monte Carlos, tuning non-perturbative parameters Carlos. These proceedings describe theoretical that taken place, impact early data, for future development.
This is the summary and introduction to proceedings contributions for Les Houches 2009 "Tools Monte Carlo" working group.
Current research in High Energy Cosmic Ray Physics touches on fundamental questions regarding the origin of cosmic rays, their composition, acceleration mechanisms, and production. Unambiguous measurements energy spectra composition rays at "knee" region could provide some answers to above questions. So far only ground based observations, which rely sophisticated models describing high interactions earth's atmosphere, have been possible due extremely low particle rates these energies. A...

On July 4, 2012, the discovery of a new boson, with mass around 125 GeV/c2 and properties compatible those standard-model Higgs was announced at CERN. In this context, high-luminosity electron-positron collider ring, operating in LHC tunnel centre-of-mass energy 240 GeV called LEP3, becomes an attractive opportunity both from financial scientific point views. The performance suitability CMS detector are evaluated, emphasis on accurate measurement boson properties. precision expected for...
Future space experiments dedicated to the observation of high-energy gamma and cosmic rays will increasingly rely on a highly performing calorimetry apparatus, their physics performance be primarily determined by geometrical dimensions energy resolution calorimeter deployed. Thus it is extremely important optimize its acceptance, granularity, absorption depth for measurement particle with respect total mass apparatus which most constraint launch. The proposed design tries satisfy these...
The direct measurement of the cosmic-ray spectrum, up to knee region, is one instrumental challenges for next generation space experiments. main issue these measurements a steeply falling spectrum with increasing energy, so physics performance calorimeters are primarily determined by their geometrical acceptance and energy resolution. CaloCube three-year R&D project, approved financed INFN in 2014, aiming optimize design space-born calorimeter. peculiarity its capability detecting particles...
We study Matrix Element corrections as implemented in four popular event generators for hadron collisions. compare PYTHIA, HERWIG, ALPGEN and SHERPA the Z/gamma* inclusive production at LHC. PYTHIA HERWIG are able to correct first emission from shower taking calculation one additional parton into account. take account not only one, but rather several hard emissions incoming partons. This can be done price of introducing a separation cut distinguish Parton Shower populated regions. In this...
Given the good performances in terms of geometrical acceptance and energy resolution, calorimeters are best suited detectors to measure high cosmic rays directly space. However, order exploit this potential, design must be carefully optimized take into account all limitations related space missions, due mainly mass experimental apparatus. CaloCube is a three years R&D project, approved financed by INFN 2014, aiming optimize space-borne calorimeter use cubic, homogeneous isotropic geometry....
The CMS Silicon Strip Tracker (SST) construction has been completed on March 2007. From then to July 2007 the SST gone through of a long series tests, involving cosmic ray data taking. Track reconstruction performed with three track finders. We will talk about so called Combinatorial Finder, one default finders, and its generalization case. For first time this algorithm run real data, both online offline. Tracking performances simulated be discussed.
Precise measurements of the energy spectra and composition cosmic rays in PeV region could improve our knowledge regarding their origin, acceleration mechanism, propagation, composition. At present time, spectral this are mainly derived from data collected by ground-based detectors, because very low particle rates at these energies. Unfortunately, results affected high uncertainties typical indirect measurements, which depend on complicated modeling interaction primary with atmosphere. A...
The accumulation of a large amount new experimental data at an impressive rate present and future collider experiments has led to important questions concerning storage organization, their public access usability, as well efficient usage in order discriminate between different theories. For the last fourty years, HEPData database been reference for worldwide community elementary particle physicists, from DIS fixed-target experts. Using basis dump HEPData, we discuss possible paths enhance...
The concept of a homogeneous, isotropic, and high dynamic range calorimeter has been developed prototype built tested. The most suitable geometry was found to be cubic so as detect particles arriving from every direction in space, thus maximizing the acceptance; granularity is achieved by subdividing volume smaller crystals.A dual readout each crystal with two independent photodiodes ensures range. The consists CsI(Tl) crystals 36 mm edge. Each coupled photodiodes. One large area for small...
The production of simulated samples for physics analysis at LHC represents a noticeable organization challenge, because it requires the management several thousands different workflows. submission workflow to grid based computing infrastructure starts with definition general characteristics given set coherent (called 'campaign'), up settings be used each sample corresponding specific process simulated, both hard event generation and detector simulation level. In order have an organized...
