The discovery by the ATLAS and CMS experiments of a new boson with mass around 125 GeV measured properties compatible those Standard-Model Higgs boson, coupled absence discoveries phenomena beyond Standard Model at TeV scale, has triggered interest in ideas for future factories. A circular e+e- collider hosted 80 to 100 km tunnel, TLEP, is among most attractive solutions proposed so far. It clean experimental environment, produces high luminosity top-quark, W Z studies, accommodates multiple...

Summary: Purpose : We wished to evaluate adjunctive therapy for partial‐onset seizures with topiramate (TPM) efficacy and safety in a double‐blind, placebo‐controlled, randomized, parallel‐group study. Methods Sixty outpatients epilepsy (47 men 13 women, mean age 32.9 years) were studied. All had documented history of or without secondarily generalized seizures. After an 8‐week baseline during which patients at least one seizure per week, 30 each randomized TPM 300 mg twice daily (b.i.d.)...

To evaluate whether repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (RTMS) may be used for speech localization, we compared the results from RTMS with intracarotid amobarbital test (IAT) in 21 patients undergoing surgical treatment (amygdalohippocampectomy or anterior temporal lobe resection) medically intractable partial epilepsy. None of had aphasia. We stimulated and frontal cortex on each side at a frequency 30 Hz 1 second increased intensity until was inhibited. A list words forward...

Abstract The antiepileptic effect of γ‐vinyl γ‐aminobutyric acid (GABA), an irreversible GABA‐transaminase inhibitor, was investigated in add‐on, placebo‐controlled, double‐blind, cross‐over, fixed‐dose trial. Twenty‐one patients suffering from difficult to control complex partial seizures participated; 18 completed the Serum levels concomitant drugs were kept constant throughout Three (17%) reduction seizure frequency and 8 (44%) reduced by at least 50%. The authors investigated whether patients with drug refractory epilepsy have cardiovascular abnormalities that might be related to a high frequency of sudden death. Twenty-three subjects underwent comprehensive evaluations before and during video-EEG monitoring. ST-segment depression occurred in 40% was associated higher maximum heart rate seizures. These data suggest cardiac ischemia may occur these patients.

Summary: Social acceptance of persons with epilepsy very often constitutes a considerable problem for patients and their relatives. Nationwide opinion polls on the knowledge public attitude toward have been taken in several countries, but never Denmark. We report Gallup survey general epilepsy. A representative population 1,500 aged ≥15 years was selected four‐state proportional sampling procedure. Ninety‐seven percent respondents had heard or read about epilepsy, 60% these knew person 50%...
