Optical-phased arrays (OPAs) enable complex beamforming, random-access beam pointing, and simultaneous scan tracking of multiple targets by controlling the phases two-dimensional (2D) coherent emitters. So far, no OPA can achieve all desirable features including large 2D arrays, high optical efficiency, wideband operation in wavelengths, fast response time, steering angles at same time. Here, we report on a large-scale with novel microelectro-mechanical-system (MEMS)-actuated phase...

Prediabetes and its pathophysiology remain important issues. We aimed to examine the cluster characteristics of prediabetes explore their associations with developing diabetes complications based on 12 variables representing body fat, glycemic measures, pancreatic β cell function, insulin resistance, blood lipids, liver enzymes. A total 55,777 individuals from China Cardiometabolic Disease Cancer Cohort (4C) were classified at baseline into six clusters. During a median 3.1 years follow-up,...

We are presenting an overview of MEMS-based (Micro-Electro-Mechanical System) optical switch technology starting from the reflective two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) MEMS implementations. To further increase speed these devices, mirror size needs to be reduced. Small prevents efficient reflection but favors a diffraction-based approach. Two implementations have been demonstrated, one using Texas Instruments DLP (Digital Light Processing), other LCoS-based (Liquid Crystal on...

Single-shot high-speed mapping photography is a powerful tool used for studying fast dynamics in diverse applications. Despite much recent progress, existing methods are still strained by the trade-off between sequence depth and light throughput, errors induced parallax, limited imaging dimensionality, potential damage caused pulsed illumination. To overcome these limitations, we explore time-varying optical diffraction as new gating mechanism to obtain ultrahigh speed. Inspired pulse front...

We demonstrate a hyperspectral and depth sensitive diffuse optical imaging microsystem, where fast scanning is provided by CMOS compatible 2-axis MEMS mirror. By using lissajous patterns, large field-of-view (FOV) of 1.2 cmx1.2 cm images with lateral resolution 100 µm can be taken at 1.3 frames-per-second (fps). Hyperspectral depth-sensitive were acquired on tissue simulating phantom samples containing quantum dots (QDs) patterned various depths in Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). Device...

Optical phased array (OPA) is a key enabling element for solid state LIDAR (light detection and ranging). In this paper, we demonstrate novel MEMS micromirror OPA. Vertical combdrive actuators are integrated underneath the mirrors to achieve small pitch (2.4μm) large field of view (22° at 905nm wavelength 40° 1550nm). The OPA has 2μs response time, 10V actuation voltage.
