Article abstract—We followed 828 nondemented residents of Hisayama Town, Kyushu, Japan, aged 65 years or older (88.3% the elderly population) for 7 starting in 1985 order to determine type-specific incidence dementia and its risk factors general Japanese population. Only two subjects were lost follow-up, during which period 103 developed dementia. Morphologic examination brains 89 (86.4%) was made by autopsy CT. We initial diagnosis based on DSM-111-R criteria, with diagnoses vascular (VD)...

Background —Angiotensin II (Ang II) is implicated in cardiac remodeling and increasingly recognized for its profibrotic activity. Methods Results —Because little known about the direct cellular effects of Ang on human fibroblasts, we isolated fibroblasts from ventricles explanted hearts added (100 nmol/L) to determine role growth, extracellular matrix accumulation, adhesion. To assess which receptor involved, was presence irbesartan (10 μmol/L), a specific AT 1 antagonist; PD 123319 2...

4H-SiC(0001), (0001), and (1120) have been directly oxidized by N 2 O at 1300°C, metal–oxide–semiconductor (MOS) interfaces characterized. The interface state density has significantly reduced oxidation on any face, compared to conventional wet 1150°C. Planar n-channel field-effect transistors (MOSFETs) fabricated (0001) faces shown effective channel mobilities of 26, 43, 78 cm /Vs, respectively. Secondary ion mass spectrometry analyses revealed a clear pileup nitrogen atoms near the MOS...

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ-(PPARγ) ligands troglitazone (TRO), rosiglitazone (RSG), and 15-deoxy-Δ prostaglandin J2 (15d-PGJ2) on vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) migration directed by multiple chemoattractants. Involvement mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) in also examined, because TRO previously shown inhibit nuclear events stimulated pathway during mitogenic signaling VSMCs. Abstract —Migration of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) is a key event in neointimal formation and atherosclerosis that may be linked to the accumulation inflammatory release chemotactic cytokines. Tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) induces chemotaxis fibroblasts, but little known about signaling by TNF-α VSMC. The aim this study was investigate role VSMC migration elucidate pathways mediating action. (50 400 U/mL) induced cultured rat aortic dose-dependent manner. Because activation...

Hypertension in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) strongly associates cardiovascular events. Among CKD, reducing the accumulation of uremic toxins may protect against development hypertension and progression renal damage, but there are no established therapies to accomplish this. Here, overexpression human kidney-specific organic anion transporter SLCO4C1 rat reduced hypertension, cardiomegaly, inflammation setting failure. In addition, decreased plasma levels guanidino succinate,...

Angiotensin II (Ang II) plays an important role in cardiac remodeling through stimulation of proliferation and extracellular matrix (ECM) production fibroblasts. Integrins are a family transmembrane receptors that mediate the attachment cells to ECM. We hypothesized Ang regulation integrins further contributes its remodeling. cultured adult rat fibroblasts with without (100 nmol/L) determine effects on mRNA protein levels integrins, as well alpha-actinin other cytoskeletal proteins link at...

Ovarian stimulation induced by follicle-stimulating hormone and human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) is commonly used in assisted reproductive technology to increase embryo production. However, recent clinical animal studies have shown that ovarian disrupts endometrial function development adversely affects pregnancy outcomes. How impairs establishment the precise mechanisms which this reduces chances of conception remain unclear. In study, we first demonstrated using hCG alone implantation,...

Abstract Aims To examine the effects of a 24-month treatment with ipragliflozin on carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) in type 2 diabetes patients. Methods and results In this multicenter, prospective, randomized, open-label, blinded-endpoint investigator-initiated clinical trial, adults haemoglobin A1C (HbA1c) 6.0–10.0% (42–86 mmol/mol) were randomized equally to (50 mg daily) non-sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitor use standard-care (control group) for followed-up 24 months....

A 65-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital with heart failure secondary aortic regurgitation and paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. During surgery for valve-sparing root replacement, a biopsy obtained from the right atrium because of AF mild LV hypokinesis. histopathological examination revealed natriuretic peptide amyloidosis, patient clinically diagnosed isolated amyloidosis (IAA). Although IAA is rarely clinically, it should be considered in patients failure.

Peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM) is a form of heart failure that affects women late in pregnancy or early peripartum. The present report describes case patient with PPCM demonstrated by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) gadolinium enhancement the left ventricle (LV). MRI improved associated recovery cardiac function. Endomyocardial biopsy showed mild cell infiltration and fibrosis. Thus, may be useful for evaluation myocardial damage to predict outcome PPCM.
